Cyberpunk theme keeps evolving, the idea of cyberpunk we have now is different than the one that existed in the 80´s, 90´s, even 2000´s.
Like many concepts of the Future, things keep evolving, and so do the concepts.
So no, it´s not cyberpunk, it´s “past” cyberpunk.
I´m having in consideration many types of the latest cyberpunk theme and design, not just the latest game “cyberpunk 2077”
In the end the outfit is not even that close to “Old” cyberpunk theme.
4/10 if we would review it.
The devs sure could have done better.
The game is set in the 80s and Akira was one if the most iconic cyberpunk works in the 80s.
For those of us that were teenagers in the 80s (i.e. the same age as the protagonists were supposed to be playing as) and into sci-fi / genre fiction back then, Kaneda’s outfit is as iconic as it gets.
It totally fits the time period, aesthetic and the genre in a way that more modern interpretations of cyberpunk don’t.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t have preferred something a little flashier, but this looks like something teenagers in the 80s might cobble together to look like Kaneda. Which I think is the aim.
What makes Akira early cyberpunk is the futuristic tech he uses. Just look the bike, it’s futuristic looking even today.
However, Akira’s outfit isn’t futuristic. It’s regular pants, shoes, jacket, gloves, all in red. For the outfit, i might see punk part of it but for sure, there isn’t any cyber in it. So, i wouldn’t say outfit itself would be cyberpunk.
In that sense, is The Stig (Top Gear) outfit Cyberpunk as well? Since it’s essentially same, only in white.
It’s not necessarily about the tech. Harrison Ford or Rutger Hauer in Bladerunner didn’t look especially tech-laden but you couldn’t argue that their outfits aren’t iconic cyberpunk costumes… but we can go round and round on this.
Basically I think the devs here have used the term ‘cyberpunk’ as basically shorthand for ‘Akira’ to specifically reference a film rather than the genre; in exactly the same way that “Adventurer” is shorthand for Indiana Jones, that ''Ecto scientist" is Ghostbusters, “Xeno-specialist” is Aliens and “Interceptor” is Mad Max.
yeah like Cyberpunk clothing can really be different from each other in style. But this outfit doesn’t try to look something like cyberpunk aside from Akria maybe. But a Deus ex styled outfit would be pretty nice ngl I love me some Deus Ex.
the only thing I don’t like about it is it’s the only outfit in the game that disappears from game when disconnecting from the internet, and you also lose all your clothing upgrades after a few days, halloween cloths, the fancy set, gnome mask, police cloths, all stay in forever after disconnetion from internet
Necro…
But to answer you:
It’s bound to the apex connect account. If you’re offline, it can’t check if you have an active account. That’s why the apparel disappears if you’re offline.
knew that already, they wanna make sure you still own a apex account & didn’t deactivate with them, so the reason for a permanent download, it doesn’t hurt my feelings, I’m just speaking things I see a notice, it does however use crafting resources when upgrading apperal, and you do lose them a few days later, example, upgrading the cyberpunk boots with 10% jump boost, a few days later you lose your 10% jump boost
jfyi, the cyberpunk outfit has been removed, I was doing 1 of the FMTEL challenges today, ( upgrade 3 pair of clothing at clothing station ), and while looking for cyberpunk outfit, nowhere to be seen, was it removed with the latest hot patch, the first time I’m noticing this, im PS4 player
Did anyone already check if fmtel is available if you play offline now?
If yes, they probably moved the fmtel system from server based to the local game system… and then forgot to also change the requirements for the cyberpunk outfit, which just was available with active apex connect account and running fmtel system.
i just looked, yeah it is, didn’t know it was, ,that explains the cyberpunk outfit, , those little mini missions also work offline, Deadrop, etc, etc, etc, , i kinda wonder if the events will work offline also
when is the Selma Event, i wanna test it offline when that time comes, would be kinda neat if all the events will work offline, something I test when the next big event
