I picked up a gold gas mask with about 60-65% protection but I am not finding it under eye wear.
I am showing two, both with about 15% protection. I sure do need that gold one.

A gold gas mask? Clothing items aren’t supposed to have rarity. Unless you mean that it looks golden, though in that case I don’t believe that’s something that’s supposed to be part of the loot pool. It could be another of the anomalies referred to in this post.
