PS4 DLC: feedback and discussion

I would like to suggest (which I did in another post) to make a test team that gets the updates sooner, to test these.
That would have prevented a lot of issues, I believe, as problems on a larger test group would have been detected earlier.

Yes, there is a small test group, and yet, some fairly big issues still made release.
That is DEVASTATING to a game, especially when surrounded already by a lot of bad reviews…

I for one, would love to be a tester, for totally free, no strings attached.
I believe, several others would like to offer their time as tester, for free.
Simply because that would surely help the game, and thus the community…

Preventing bugs to make it into official releases such as DLC content, would surely give the game a great boost, I reckon.

And, darn it, we’re here, why not use that?
Right?

@DarkAngelLord95, Surely you must know that it would be unwise for devs to give you new info on the game if it is not yet developed, because some gamers will be upset if something goes wrong with that. They would be saying; “but… you (devs) promised this was coming”.

@Gysbert
Hence the previous post.
They can, and they would/could implement X, if decently tested…

You are testing it already, didn’t you know?
I believe the devs smart enough not to step into such a promises-trap. They should make their own plan and only tell about new stuff if it is developed and tested, never sooner.

@Gysbert
Incorrect, sir… I am PLAYING…
The difference is, that the game and it DLC’s have been released, sir.
I meant specifically: PRE-release testing, so bugs would mostly be eliminated BEFORE official release, and thus prevent further damage to the game’s already damaged imago…

Yep, you’re playing and writing your findings in these fora. Suggesting changes. Giving your opinion on what is wrong and what good with the game. I understand this is not really testing.

I just saw the edit…

Which promises trap, sir?
I mean, before anyone would be able to enter the test group, they would have to agree to an agreement, stating that for example releasing info would lead to immediate termination of testership, that only actual bugs can be reported, …

There are ways to make this group ‘safe’ up to a point, good sir.

Furthermore, application would be judged on the person, people that are trusted would be allowed to become tester, those that are unsure…
Will need to prove themselves…?

Thoughts?

Correct, sir.
Bug hunting has nothing to do with opinion, or other forms of bias.
If you fall through the planet’s surface, I think we could all agree, that that would count as a bug.

Whereas for instance the to-hit of a shot ratio, could be biassed.
For one, that would be acceptable, for another not.
But the beauty is, once posted, and a Dev would say, it is intended, then that is that…
No?

The one of DarkAngelLord95, where he asked for new info, info on things that are not yet in the game.

You seem to believe that the game was not tested, or not tested decently and thus adding to their damaged imago.

@Gysbert
Ah, yes.
Hence the agreement, and people known to the people that would decide, if ever implemented, and deemed trustworthy, would be allowed to be tester.

Naturally, there could always be a bad apple, but once this has been figured out, immediate termination of testership would prevent further leakage from said tester.

Well yes.
I mean, I saw quite a few videos of GZ, and one of the things mentioned in many, time and again, were bugs.

To name but one example: Astrounaut Robots (machines that were launched “into space”.)
Many took that one to make the game look bad.
Then there was an issue with big machines popping in houses, and bunkers.
Could’ve been prevented, if this was fixed before the patch or DLC (whichever it was) officially got released…

Ah well, I am merely thinking out loud, here, sir…
Don’t mind me…
I do not either. XD

I know, but I did not experience the game as buggy. I wouldn’t have kept playing (730 hours) if it was. To me it was one of the greatest atmospheric games I ever played. But I liked it for the exploring, not the battling, that was some necessary part of the game. I would buy the next expansion in a heartbeat. But if that will ever happen?

Well, me neither (PC)!!!
But then, here’s a funny one, good sir: On PS4, some are (or were?) unable to launch the game at all.
One would assume, on a console, since these are ALL the same, hardware and program-wise (NOT game wise/data-wise), these are identical.
And yet…
Now, in a team of say 4 PS4 testers, this could be missed.
However, in a team of 20 PS4 testers… it probably would have been picked up.

Many tell me, I have been VERY lucky, having no issues with the game.
But then, I do a lot of system maintenance.

And right now, I too got an issue: I cannot run both the game and Firefox for some odd reason.
Doing so crashes my Firefox within 10 minutes, giving me a 2D-DirectDraw confict with crash to desktop.
Only GZ does this for some odd reason.

It is a bit annoying, but nothing lethal.

But otherwise, I’ve always enjoyed a free-of-issues game, myself, sir.

Also I lost my save do corruption, but that was an old save, and I blame not the game, but the darned Steam save system!
I am darned sure, that cloud save was corrupt, killing of my save on the system by overwriting that…

When I read your posts, I often get a smile on my face. This time you said you are lucky with having almost no issue with the game, but there is always a list of negative issues following or previously mentioned. I do know I am facilitating the spread of negativity with this talk, which is really only adding to the damaging imago you mentioned. And as my few lines of positivity are dissipating into nothingness, I can only think of your once written words “it is what it is”. There is already too much disapproval and misunderstanding in this world. Let’s not … Let’s have fun.

LOL!

Well, a “list”…
One issue of which I have not found the cause of, could be my system: bad driver or so, and one issue certainly related to GZ, but not caused by GZ.

I fail to get that one, good sir.
Please elaborate?

Amen.

Now, we spoke of issues.
Well, as said, I had 2.
Of one, I failed so far to determine the cause (Firefox crashing).
The other, the save file corruption, then, though related to GZ, is not caused by GZ.
Both cases, I clearly stated this, sir.
So, how can this be either negativity, or damaging to the imago of GZ?

However, yes, I do this: BUT…
Which is followed by opinionated thoughts…
I care far too much about this game, I do… :sa:
So true, good sir.

I agree with you. Speaking about new things now would be an exceptionnal things, just to put some good news/hype after all the delays/issues.

Then it would only be nice to get a scheduled of when new content could be released. Nothing more, no need to say “what is this new content”. This way, no promise. They could release a whole DLC, or just add a new cosmetics, no one could know=no real promise

The most important thing about it is to know when we’ll get patches to solve issues and when we’ll get new content, expecting that this 2 kind of updates will be separated after what happened.

I will use the same example as previously: ARK Survival Evolved. They had many issues, even consoles-specific issues and delays, like GZ right now. Despite all of it, it’s still a well-known survival with lots of players on every platform. They also got issues with “rework” of the map, while updating the original map, like GZ actually do. And they still add content while the game is like 5 years old (even older as it was playable as an alpha/beta on steam if I remember correctly).

In 2020, they teased us about a new DLC, a New free map AND an update bringing new content (New 3d models and gameplay for some dinos that were released 5 YEARS AGO, a rework of old content).

If you take a look on their website (survivetheark.com) they showed us 2 of the reworked dinos (stego & mammoth). There is no release date for this update. But it’s nice to see what will come next. It’s easier to wait like that.

The GZ team could simply tell us “we’re working on a New machine/vehicle/weapon/gameplay additions when they start developping it and then tease us about it until it’s released like” what kind of weapon it could be" and then maybe a picture and this way they could both create hype about it and test our réaction. We would make suggestions here and they could see if they’re on the good way and even get additionnals ideas.

I made like 100+ suggestions in the ARK threads years ago, shared and liked by other players. And many of my suggestions, and other players suggestions of course, are now in the game. For example the New mammoth they are working on, has abilities we asked for (War drums, grabbing ennemies with the trunk).

It’s easier to know what you are waiting for, as long as it’s not spoilers about the story.

Right now I hope for all of you that it will grow bigger and bigger like ARK, it would be a nice story!

As I said: Gameplay from GZ (fighting, hunting, stealth, skills, ai) mixed with ARK creatures/worlds/gameplay (base building, crafting, taming, eating…) would give us maybe the best survival game ever. Just add story like Fallout 4 and maybe it’s the perfect survival ever. (yes it looks like I’m used to games with bugs)

If you want that then look no further than Second Extinction:

Is this confirmation that Second Extinction is coming to the PS4 as well? (I’m just curious, since this is a PS4 thread)

Well: the easy answer is:
This is a GZ forum, we have no idea about SE, sir.
The more complex and scientifically supported answer looks like:
This is a GZ forum, we have no idea about SE, sir.

Might I suggest to look for an SE forum, good sir?

I posted about SE in response of OP’s whishes, rather than a statement of SE coming to PS4.

However:

Second Extinction is currently in development for Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC, with a closed beta slated for Steam this summer.
