Ammo usage in end game being difficult / explosives feel weak / weight / rescources

So, i know people have had issues with ammo weight, but i think that ammo weight should be reduced
and made more abundant just based off of how tanky most enemies are at the end of the game, compared to how much ammo you use and how much you get back. ex: i spent like close to 3 mags of a minigun (almost 1k 7.62) and i didn’t even kill the tank on the easiest difficulty (granted it was finx tho). when i did, i got about 200 7.62. this is one example of how the amount of damage and the amount of ammo you do just don’t scale well into the end game. I think a good way to balance this would be either making weapons deal more damage or making ammo lighter and more abundant. side note, the explosives suck in my opinion, like i can direct impact a military hunter with a rpg from the soviet pack (most single target damage) and it doesn’t even die, even if i shoot it 3 times it only dies sometimes. explosives just feel weak compared to regular bullets. for weight, i understand thing like explosives weighing a lot but, some items just weigh too much compared to what we can have at maximum. ex (anything in the equipment tab, attachments) apart from that, i feel as if resources like textile or cement are really hard to get.

If you use the minigun you are bound to lose a lot of ammo, because many bullets do not do damage if they miss. Better would be to shoot of the shielding and target the weak spots.

Weapons with a high rate of fire typically consume ammunition quickly. This can lead to a significant number of rounds missing the target and further rounds hitting already compromised weak points, resulting in additional ammo wastage. The drawbacks of a high rate of fire include weight constraints and the potential for depleted resources.

The 7.62 ammunition is quite common, easy to gather and manufacture. However, it’s also easy to deplete if not used wisely. Consider diversifying your weaponry to conserve this type of ammo, and make sure to loot to replenish your stock.

EDIT:
Explosives, such as rockets, are most effective when detonated near machines rather than through direct impact. To damage a harvester with three nearby hunters, aim close to the harvester; this will ensure all four machines sustain damage. Alternatively, targeting the center of the three hunters will also result in damage to all. The effect is particularly pronounced when the blast ricochets off walls.

Finally, it’s not intended to get all the ammo you used back from the loot of killed machines.

What kind of game would it be, if that would be the case?

Chose your weapons wisely, don’t always just pull the trigger until the magazine is empty, and look for loot in every box, not just in dead machines.

Some machines also have higher chances for certain types of ammo, than others.

Like Gybert wrote. Add to that the possibility that the Minigun maybe isn’t the weapon doing most damage per bullet of the 7.62’s ?
Wasn’t any Minigun out yet and same for many of the other guns later released and many others had done the story of the game on harder difficultys. So a different weapon choice and different tactics might be in order.

Dont forget your skill tree and perks. Choose wisely.

with exploding gas cans, the red propane tank, the white tank & the poison tank, throwing them might be interesting idea, with a granny shot anyone can throw it gas tanks lol

I have always had trouble with being able to carry enough ammo because it ends up weighing so much.

What’s “enough” in your eyes?

Of course it also depends on which and how many weapons you carry.

I carry like 5 weapons and I do agree that enough is not the same in everyone’s eyes.

Just as example (after I fought a reaper):

I currently carry 6 weapons (12kg):

  • augmented 5c N9 (shock ammo, quick escapes)
  • augmented 5c AI76 (shock ammo)
  • augmented 5c RLG7 (structures)
  • augmented 5c m49 (big machines)
  • augmented 5c PM71 (big machines, everything)
  • 6c PVG90 (distance, everything)

I currently have this ammo in my backpack (25kg):

  • 500 9mm pistol
  • 300 9mm pistol shock ammo
  • 1500 7.62
  • 100 7.62 shock ammo
  • 300 .50 BMG
  • 10 84mm HEDP
  • 6 84mm EMP
  • 10 LG7V

I have about 75kg used in total, about 20kg free.
I also have about 33 kg of additional equipment and about 4kg attachments.

Usually I would drop a few hundreds 9mm rounds, pick up additional 1500 7.62 and about 300 7.62 shock ammo, about 200 .50 BMG and 5 to 10 more HEDP/LG7V now.

That’s all I need for some nice trips.

5… 6…

Did play the trough the story and is still running around dealing out mayhem with 3, sometime 4 weapons in case of a daily mission demands a handgun or if you count the portable turrets.

You guys know that you can upgrade your plundra, right?

:joy:
Of course.
For me it’s just that I want to be prepared for different situations… And some are/were just for fun.

Before the augmentations came into the game I used to carry most 6c weapons (klauke, ag4, pvg, m49, 12g) plus some specials like a melee weapon or the flamethrower.

All to have something for a special purpose and a wider variety of ammo-types.

In the time before the weapon wheel I had less weapons, but more ammo, because it wasn’t as easy/fast to switch primary weapons.
