Hi, all. I would like to make a topic about base building in general.
“What are some of the best ways to build a base for Hard mode?” is my question.
With that being said, I sorta already have my own layout for making my own style. This picture illustrates what I call a “Notch Corner”. It’s basically a part of a wall that sticks out by 3 blocks, and it is set up on all four corners of my bases. These three by 8 blocks change a great deal in terms of fields of fire, hence one corner allows me to cover most of the whole corner and see beyond it.
Whereas before, this was all flat on each corner and both of the towers behind the wall. In making the design shown in the picture, I had three main rules for corners;
- A better corner design must have no holes in the walls (mainly for aesthetical looks).
- It must be beneficial in terms of fields of fire and/or efficiency.
- I wanted my design to be realistic.
As for any sources of inspiration, I was mainly inspired by castle wall designs - especially ones that had French Bastions. The reason why I don’t have notches like this every so often along a wall is to keep the field of fire from being limited. I am also one person playing solo, and have seen no need to further complicate my walls for not that big of defenses. However, I am hoping to draw further inspiration from the Bastions to further increase the effectiveness of fields of fire. Unlike the Bastions that were even used in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, the walls for our Resistance defenses cannot be made into triangles or points - except on corners.
One of the main goals I have with sharing defenses like this is receiving feedback for it, to improve upon my design. Of course, I also used this design for defending the walls on Medium difficulty and succeded with little to no damage to the whole base overall (thanks in a large part to the enemy’s pathfinding).
I used a similar design for my edges of the (sadly lost due to a bug) tylöveden base, but I didn’t include the sniper towers.
Also this way of building I just used for the smaller inner perimeter of the base. I connected the towers with a double line of walls (back to back), which enabled me to move fast and safe from one tower to another.
For the outer wall I used small defenses with at least one pillbox (mostly rocket turrets), also surrounded by small walls.
I identified two sides of the base where the most machines spawned at. There I placed two turrets each. One side just got one turret and the fourth got none, but additional fortification and traps.
I didn’t play many base defenses since the waves got revamped. Before, yes, I at least did enough to get all the experimental ammo schematics.
Finally, I never lost a base, even when doing a hard defense with the new waves, so I guess it was quite succesful. But since I lost my base due to the bug, I never rebuilt IT and never did a base defense again, yet.
I have nothing good to say about the control points/base building/defense that was forced into the game. Only time it worked, and it was very iffy, was when it was just the home base and even that broke a few things in the game that have yet to be fixed. Not to mention how the home base was destroyed by an update. Not going to do that again. I destroy the bases ASAP and just for the uranium and in hopes it doesn’t destroy my map.

Yes, there is much to complain about, but it wasn’t about base assaults, but the base defenses and the control points in general.
Talking about general critics:
-
It would have been better with just one control point per region.
-
There should have been random attacks (announced) on the bases, not just the triggerable waves.
-
I’m still missing soviet bases and soviet attacks on resistance bases.
-
it lacks of some upgrades for bases.
-
I’m missing skills for basebuilding.
-
and maybe more that doesn’t come to my mind atm.
@gamingderpies1 Is that something you also wanted to talk about when talking about it in general?
Or just in special about tactics for building bases?

That sucks, to be honest. What I do for all my bases is have this design on all four corners and walls, along with a gate on each side (gate doors on the inside when they open, so as not to block the field of fire). On top of all this, I’ve often found it beneficial to keep base footprints small as it saves on both resources and time.
I would like to talk about tactics and strategies for base building overall. I am also looking for anything on how to help me win in Hard mode.
