The combat in generation zero is a very interesting experience with many intricacies. with that said I feel the game could be improved if the damage i’m doing felt as viceral as the flow of combat, that is to say that I don’t think we do enough damage. at least not me. a way we can improve this is to increase the damage done to components but reducing the damage a certain percentage as it goes through more armor, so breaking the armor would reduce the modifier but not heavily damage it whilst shooting a fuel tank is big damage and thus the machines would have to be more heavily armored to reflect a more realistic approach.
I am interested in your guy’s opinions as I know this is just one of many perspectives. what do you think about combat in general, like traps and stealth, or just anything really. let me know with a comment.
also I am unfamiliar as to how the topic system works so please help.
Like many scenarios within gaming it’s all about balance. The game is somewhat trying to level out with recent balancing of weapons, and over haul of the clothing side. That said - if your looking to do more damage, may I recommend some experimental weaponry, and ammo.
You should be able to have the upper hand with some 7.62 shock.
While I do great damage to single targets it just isn’t enough for most fights since nearly all later game robots hunt in groups and I can’t dispatch them fast enough. I always hate setting “traps” and then having to dance in a field for 20 minutes. And I can’t find the experimental kvm so I have to target components one at a time so sometimes there are gunless, fuel tankless, and broken beyond repair hunters chasing me with 40%+ health left.
Which difficulty are we talking about?
Except the apoc hunters, all blow up if they are disarmed and have no fuel cell anymore…
But in some way I know what you mean. Maybe I’ll upload a video later.
I just had a fight on himfjäll (all apoc class) against a tank, a harvester, about 20 hunter and 30 runner. I didn’t count them but they were a lot.
Took me about 13 minutes running and fighting around.
But even more challenging was a fight with a friend in mountain region next to the safehouse at the rails against 5 harvesters (one apoc rival, 2 military, 2 fnix), about 30 hunters + the called in support and dozens of runners at night.
It was frightening to see all the red lights in the dark of the forrest and a really hard battle. I didn’t stop time exactly, but it took almost an hour.
Sorry for the delayed response.
To answer your question I play on guerrilla difficulty and use the ag4 with just normal bullets. My experience in this case is specifically when fighting apoc harvesters. I will typically use explosives and such to burst the harvester down but it calls in more hunters before I can finish the job and then all the enemies around will come flooding in.
(Wait, i’m stupid while typing this I realized I’ve been using exclusively AP rounds)
I can still remember my first meeting with an apoc harvester.
Without experimental weapons, not yet reached max level (or didn’t have all skill points). It was different than now.
He often used explosive purple gas when I came close. A really hard battle that I haven’t seen for many months now. Did they change the apoc harvesters?
You should destroy the harvesters missile pods at first, then get rid of some hunters, but not all! Then destroy the harvester and finally the remaining hunter(s).
When they changed the apoc hunters flamethrowers after landfall this way became a really easy way, because it’s easy to dodge the apoc hunters attacks.
