I accidentally put a weapon skin in the companion workstation inventory & I believe I’ve done everything I need to put it together - except I can’t fix it for some reason. Maybe it’s because of that weapon skin… I’ll try restarting the game & see what happens.

I put in a recon module, concussive armor and an smg weapon. By chance, does the companion work with weapon mods like an extended kispit mag?
But is this only happening on STEAM, or have you seen it happen on XBOX players?
no it doesn’t use any of your gear. only the stuff you make for it

Oh and maybe check your weight as every pet armor puts an additional 1 kg in your inventory but goes most often unnoticed…

I got this from Steam. I play it on a Windows OS.
The armor gauge in the bottom left is empty, unlike the health gauge - despite the armor being equipped on the companion as it says in the bottom right.
Oh? Idrk how that could work. In the companion workstation, I only saw that they had ways to craft companion armor. You unlock more armor types via gathering scematics.

Ah that… Yes, it has been since the start, if you apply an armor in the station it doesn’t show up in the armor health bar but it’s definitely there as you can see in the armor slot. And it’s also there when you deploy your pet.

Weird. But even then, I can’t repair it for some reason. The button to “repair” the companion is not lit up.

Did you already apply armor?
That may be related to the following and as @Madchaser already asked
If you’ve already applied an armor you can’t repair your Pet using a repair kit any more.
That’s possible without armor only. Somewhat strange but as one can’t apply or repair armor in the field you have to wait for the armor to vanish. Visbile by the small icon at the Pet’s health bar, a shield symbol (with applied armor) that is showing the armor health and another symbol with a little cross in it (can’t remember the shape atm… sry) that indicates the “pure” health of your mechanical friend.
Btw if you apply a new armor your Pet’s health is also repaired to 100% again.
P.S.: btw only one of the symbols is shown besides the health bar and it changes from shield to “cross” when the armor is gone
