Content Ideas, More Variety and Weapon Options (Minor mission spoilers)

Just to make this clear: this is a great game and I do like it the way it is (of course minus the random bug now and then) but I do want to see some more content in the future. For one, more expansive bunkers would be cool to see for those like me who love exploring and looting. There are so many doors inside of bunkers that you just can’t go into. It ruins the feel of having this huge underground command center in my opinion.

Along with this, another way of getting through locked doors: blasting the locks out with a shotgun. The penalty to this would be that you must use a shotgun, and you must use slug ammunition, along with all the noise it would make. Now for something that I’m sure is probably already in the works that I’m going to mention anyway: less repetition. Seeing the exact same model of a house in multiple towns can get boring and kind of break immersion. Along with this, military bases in general can sometimes feel repetitive. I don’t mind seeing Strv-103s in each one, as they were quite common in the 80’s. But some more vehicles would be nice. I will leave it up to the devs to do more research and choose 80’s vehicles from this list if they happen to see this and actually add it:

Now for weapons. Weapons are something that the game already does quite well. They have nice reload animations and good sounds. But in the future I hope to see more weapons in the game, since right now there are so few that it gets a bit boring and repetitive after finding the 4th MP5 in a day.
Here are just a couple examples of weapons that were used to some extent by the Swedish military in the late 80’s:

That being said, it would be kinda cool to be able to find some big, heavy 50. caliber machine gun such as the M2 Browning. Although powerful, there would be a nice list of drawbacks.

  • You can only carry it in your inventory or item slot
  • If in item slots, it would take up two of them
  • Must be placed on the ground on it’s tripod to be fired
  • When moved after firing, it takes roughly 10 seconds to pack up
  • If more than 300 rounds are fired in one burst, you must change out the barrel, which takes roughly 5 seconds
  • Quite rare, only found in late mid to late game areas, or on the bodies of dead Apoc Tanks
  • You would need a pretty big stock of 50. cal ammo to use it for extended lengths of time (although 100-200 ammo can be found with one)

The pros of this weapon would only be as follows:

  • Good for defense of certain areas (such as “The Resistance” mission)
  • Heavy caliber, fast fire rate, can tear even apocalypse machines apart quickly if used properly
  • Generally just cool to look at and have if nothing else

Anyway, that’s about all the input I have. Would be cool to see at least some of this in the future. But I guess I’ll just wait and see.

There’s no need for HMG in GZ. Latest patch already introduced 2x new LMGs to the game, for that heavy automatic firepower.

For new weapons, i’d like to see bigger variety with early- to mid-game weapons, e.g: UZI, Desert Eagle, SA80, SKS.

I wouldn’t mind seeing an SA80 done right, but sadly the L85 A2 was a 90’s thing and the A1… :confused:

The L85 is a good shout and would fits with the time period if it’s late 80’s and the sks is a excellant carbine and would be really good in this game

Wow;))Guys,honestly,if will be arsenal expansion then 100% it’s will be sweden made guns,cuz nearly all what you mentioned here could not work in the hard Sweden weather conditions.And how you imagine Eastern Block weapons (like SKS) background?They were imported or mbe contraband? :joy::joy::joy:

The A1 didn’t work in warmer weather either…

I hold once in my hand L85 and for my opinion it’s the worse army issue assault rifle ever;))) Only SUSAT scope really good fo 80 :+1::sunglasses:

The A2’s were waaay better, so I hear. They fixed everything. I never fired one, but I got to play around with the A1 as a child. Probably why I have a soft spot for it.

The A2 was developed by Heckler and Koch;)not by Brits)and Germans done everything what possible.But gun still outsider between all assault rifles :joy:Now UK army trying upgrade their rifles till A3 version

The Kvm 59 (Ksp 58) is an MMG, actually :slight_smile:

Nothing too special, but the SIG P226, the M9 (Beretta 92), 1911, SIG 550 (also known as the StG90), FN FAL, M14, H&K 512, and SPAS12 would all be timeframe appropriate on the NATO side.

The VSS and AS VAL would both be relatively new, but would fit for future Warsaw pact weapons. Along with stuff like the AK74, SVD, and the RPK. That would make more sense with future DLC that involved Soviet forces, which would be a nice fit for GenZero.

Some good ideas for weapons Mr starke, would they fit the game maybe not but who cares it’s a game and its fun suggesting new weapons for the game.
I like the new weapons ideas unfortunately there is a few that can’t see past that’s it’s a game and not real life and will be negative about the suggestions

SA80 (L85A1) was in production between '85 and '94, so it would fit into the game’s time period ('89). Also, i looked for distinguishable looks since many weapons IRL are very similar to each other (e.g semi-auto handguns) but in game, we have quite different looking weapons.
Also, SA80 (L85A1) would be 2nd choice for 5.56mm users, alongside AG5. Just like 7.62mm users have 2x choices: AG4 and AI-76.

SKS would also suit in the game, produced since '45 with 15+M units. It would be 1st sniper rifle that uses 7.62mm and it’s 10x round clip makes it more effective than current .243 and .270 sniper rifles. Then again, SKS is crossover weapon between sniper rifles (e.g SVT-40) and assault rifles (e.g AK-47). Also, SKS would fit well between 5x round clip .270 and 10x (18x) round mag of .50 cal, since currently, the gap with sniper rifles is great.

VSS and AS VAL used in the Soviet Union just by KGB Special Forces (“A” group and Vympel)Both those weapons never used by standard army forces.
I really interested how someone could explain weapons background.For example,Mr Starke mentioned possible Soviet Forces invasion. It’s excellent idea!Ostertern is some kind of the prototype of really existing Gotland island.So invasion could be organized by VDV (airborne) and Naval forces from Poland and LSSR and ESSR sides.In 1980-1990 standard weapon list for those forces are:AKM/AKMS,RPK/PK,SVD,RPG-7/RPG-7D…same situation in PPA army.Most common munitions 7,62x39 and 7,62x54.SKS not in use anymore.Only in former Yugoslavia or like ceremonial weapons.Believe me,I know what I talking about.I was born in Soviet Union;)))

Like possible variant for all those weapons I could advice military help from NATO and Warsaw Pact countries.Cold War finished with peace agreement between East and West and they together organizing Ostertern naval and air blockade,also Sweden coastline guard against possible machines invasion.Sweden,as neutral country,don’t give permission for land operations,but small number of special forces unofficially operating on the island.Also,unknown 3rd side,recon groups secretly have landed and collecting intels about situation and testing new/experimental weaponry.Ostertern rapidly turn to the closed area and testing field,where going fury battles against machines,local survivors,NATO/SU forces and unknown mercenaries.To support and evacuate survivors Sweden Armed Forces organizing air supply drop(with all necessary items in it) and small LZ’s and FOB’s.War against rising head in the Europe;)))

Vss and As val could be added with new potential mission . For example Soviet union decides to send in a scout group to take notes of what happened in Sweden , but as soon the group reaches the shore it gets attacked by robots .

One of my favorite weapon ideas- a 20mm anti-tank rifle (could be based on the the Finnish 20mm Lahti L39). The rifle would make the reduce the players mobility substantially however, it would do obscene amounts of damage. The gun could ONLY be fired prone, lots of recoil. Even holding the gun would disable the ability to sprint.

This is just an idea however it could prove to be a very useful team weapon for even more difficult bots down the line. Yes we already have the exp pvg 90 but it’s just a fun idea I had
