Did the Swedes actually crack cold fusion in 1989?

Of all the marvelous technology of late 80’s Sweden, the power cells clearly takes the price! If only I could have one of those …

I came across a military compound with a stack of power cells and a few barrels of what appeared to contain radioactive material. Fleischmann/Pons did proclaim that they had proved cold fusion in 1989 (later renamed to “cold confusion”) but failed miserably when scrutinized by their peers. But perhaps the Swedes did it? Lately there has been some hype about LENR so … did they solve the fossil energy problem without telling the rest of us?
