Discord - what's this app about?

Installed this app in the past. But what is it?

Yesterday I received a message that someone mentioned me in a topic, but I can’t find it.

Discord. No Idea. A GZ thing?

No. A social media thing.
I don’t use it. I don’t know it, too. I think it’s a tool to communicate with others about specific topics and to share content.
Systemic Reaction is also present on Discord, like they are on twitter. But it’s not just a GZ thing.

It’s less social media and more a chat tool. Talk to other players in the community, discuss and engage in different topics a tad faster than here on the forums and keep an eye on when the next dev stream is, for example.

It was probably a message to all members, then you won’t find one directed to your name. :coffee:

Heyo! As mentioned before, Discord is a chat app and you have joined the GZ space on that app it seems.
We send out updates about the game on there by writing a message in the channel #announcements. There, we used to use something called @ everyone, which gives everyone in the server a notification in the form of a red badge with a “1” in it. It disappears when they open the announcement channel.

I changed that yesterday and you ccan now select the events you want to receive notifications for and you can select none of them if you don’t want any.

Hope this helps!

Question:

I once tried to join the GZ discord, I can only read there, because now they want a phone verification, but I have a landline, and I don’t think that discord can send the verification code to a landline, or can they?

No, it cannot. We implemented phone authentication in response to a VERY dedicated rulebreaker, so unfortunately it’s necessary:/ as an exception, I can try and give you a role that circumvents that if you’re on the server

How would that work? What does having a role mean?

Probably an exception to the ‘rule’

Discord uses roles to handles permissions.
Each role has individual settings for what a user who is assigned to this role can and can’t do. For example “attach images to messages”, “connect to a voice channel”, or “change their own nickname”. This is also used for moderator permissions like “kick/ban other users”, “change server information”, or “delete other users’ messages” (of course only the Moderator role will have these permissions).
This forum here also has this setup, only it’s called “groups” and we have groups like Regulars, Moderators, Leader and Owner.

On Discord, the roles you create also have a hierarchy. This means that there is a role that everyone has (called everyone) which typically has only the most necessary permissions. If you have a role that is placed above everyone in the hierarchy, that role can override these permissions and give access to new channels, functionalities, or managing abilities.

This way, if I manually give you a role that can type in the text channels, that overrides the need of the “everyone” role to have a verified phone number.

`Well I have been a member since 2021, I am in there somewhere. :grinning:

I found you and assigned you to a couple of roles, see if you can type now

 The older I get the more I become the exception to the rule.
