I don’t see a difference from disabling motion blur in the game settings. And even if I disable it, on running everything gets slightly blurry. Best to observe on the leaves of trees. Might just be the TAA.
Chromatic aberration is also off in my game, but if I move a gas lantern to the edge of my screen, I see chromatic aberration.
And btw, has Film Grain been removed from the game? I can’t seem to see it and there is no option as well. I find a lot of talk about it on the inter webs, though. Might be old.
I have turned motion blur off when I first played GZ and it’s off. I see no blurring when moving.
Maybe try to manually edit the config file:
*Documents\Avalanche Studios\GenerationZero\Saves\settings*
Interesting, the option was set to “1” although turned off in game. I changed the file to “0” but that did nothing. Still everything gets slightly blurry when moving. It is very slight, you could just miss it.
Interestingly, the game did not reset the “GraphicsMotionBlur” value in the ini file. It does not seem to respect Motion Blur setting at all atm.
I made this screenshot while moving mouse left and right like a crazy person. Edges of the weapon are a little rough (most noticeable on the wires), but other than that there is bo visible motion blur.
CA is also off.
Check if the settings file is read only. You can try to manually change those settings, save, and check read only option.
It is not. And the changes in game do not correspond to the motion blur entry in the ini file.
To state it most clearly, if what I get is “no Motion Blur”, I cannot even turn this setting on. Do you get a substantial difference between on and off?
I observe a slight motion blur by looking directly at a tree and sprinting towards it. Once I stop, the image gets clear again. Maybe I can see the difference because I use a slight ReShade sharpener. It is perceivable, but not massively so.
I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that the ‘film grain’ isn’t an actual effect, but rather part of the the Anti-Aliasing at higher settings to smooth out sharp edges. Games like Wolfenstein: The New Order and sequels do this, for example.
I’m really no fan of film grain effects in games and I turn them off whenever I can, but it seems more subtle in Generation Zero. Still, if anyone’s got suggestions for turning it off I’m all ears
I’ve recently upgrade PC from a potato to something more modern with a 2060 in it. I’ve noticed immediately that I see a lot less motion blur than I did before. I actually like it (and the film grain, however that came about), so the difference stands out. What I think happens is that when you turn you’re putting a higher load on the GPU, and it covers for any ‘dropped frames’ with motion blur. In my personal experience, my new PC doesn’t have to do as much covering as it did in the past, and consequently I see a lot less motion blur. When I do, it has much shorter ‘streaks’, which is consistent with having fewer dropped frames (if that’s the term).
You’re on a 2080ti with a good CPU behind it. I suspect that your motion blur would be so subtle that you wouldn’t be able to notice it anyway. I was keeping to 30 fps, and covering the gaps. You’re consistently getting 120 and have nothing to hide.
I noticed in the last patch everything seemed to get sharper and as you say, the film grain effect has gone. I miss it. I really want that back. If anyone knows how, please tell me.
Hm. Generally, what you describe is true. The higher your fps, the clearer your image during turns (less slide show as the individual successive images your eye sees “at the same time” due to its “inertia” are fewer degrees apart). That is why idiot me plays with a 2080ti on 1080p.
Motion blur can also help with that and make the perceived motion smoother, you don’t see the double/multiple images of the same sharp contours distributed over the screen.
But I don’t see any difference between motion blur on and off. I tried on lower frame rates as well. Or chromatic aberration on or off for that matter.
I just tested, and changing the in-game values does make a difference in the game’s ini (json, actually) file again. But I don’t see any corresponding changes in-game. This shot is with Chromatic Aberration set to OFF, but look at the lantern effect on the very left:
