I’ve seen it mentioned a couple times that destroying a machine’s weapons (like a Hunter’s left arm) may impact the chance you have of scavenging a weapon from its corpse. Is there any truth to that? I know that damaging things like fuel cells and other equipment will prevent you from looting those from machines, but does that apply to their guns too?
I don’t know if there is an effect on it. Maybe the chance gets a bit smaller.
I almost always destroy the weapons of the large machines before finishing them, but get weapons from their loot.
And there were fuel cells in runners, too, although I almost always destroy them by destroying the fuel cell on their back.
That is my experience as well. Anything bigger than a Runner, I knock off their guns immediately but I still get weapon drops. I was just worried that this whole time I’ve been unknowingly missing out on getting even more.
It would be cool if there was a relation between what you destroy on the machine and what you can loot.
In the beginning I was usually avoiding their “sensors” hoping to score vision modules, but since that didn’t seem to work I gave up this tactic.
I think, just from a programming standpoint, it would be far too cumbersome to program loot tables based on what part of the machine you destroy. On the other hand the type of ammo they drop seems to correlate to what kind of weapon they’re fitted with. Railgun sniper Hunters tend to drop .50 or .270 or some other sniper type round. Same with the runners. And I noticed Lynx grenadiers seem to drop rounds for the Granat.
I thought that component damage did affect loot drops, but from my experience and others’ it doesn’t. But what’s weird is that there’s a skill that gives you a ~25% chance to salvage damaged components from machines. What does that skill do exactly?
The skill that increases your chance to get danaged components ups the deop rated to Vision Modules iirc.
If you for example destroy a seekers megaphone component then you will not find one on it to loot unless you have a skill that allows you to retrive damaged components. So it affects the drop of components but I don’t think it affects ammo and weapons since the weapons they drop are not the same they use.
