Frequent Crashes / Endless Crashing - Please Help!

I wouldn’t think that inventory should account for much of the file size. All you need is an item index, a position index (inventory slot), and the amount. More or less, as attachments can be solo or on weapons.

Not sure what does, though. My single character only lives since end of October.

Could it be the DLC?

My save is 2,966k and I am lucky to make it two minutes without a crash, but it highly depends on my location in the game, rival levels, and the degree of “action”, and whether there’s a mission active in the area I’m in that has a spawn script. So in certain times at certain areas I can play for maybe even an hour or two but a crash in less than 20 minutes is guaranteed usually. I’ve been seeing the save file a lot since I started investigating that folder since the crashes started for me which was October. It’s always been about the same size if not exactly that. I bought the DLC but haven’t been to the DLC area yet.

One of my friend’s bought himself G-zero for Christmas ’ he made it to the first church safe house solo game and it crashed blue screened error report , Ps4 , , i did warn him to wait till the devs are back with info , oh well that was the quickest crash from starting from new i have seen so far , and many more crashes and frame rate drops followed , so i guess playing the game new save or not does not matter it will crash , and yep he raged and unistalled it , i suppose we just used to it haha

offtop: btw, this is the 3rd most popular topic here https://forum.generationzero.com/top?order=posts

Shooting for #1 place!

Thanks for that link. I notice it is by far the #1 among the Bug Reports in that list. Again thank you for the link.

Over christmas I tested something else - I bought Elder Scrolls Online via Steam. Just for comparison - I`m running Elder Scrolls in highest possible settings, everything on highest / ultra… and it never crashed so far, no errors at all… my longest session was about 9 hours with about 1h of idle-time in between. What shall I say? Absolutely flawless!

Please devs, the problem MUST be in your code, not in players systems or configurations! Make fixing these issues first priority! I really wanna enjoy Generation Crash ;-)) without crash…

Would you perhaps care to check what FPS you are getting on Ultra? You could limit your FPS to roughly that number and see whether that helps as well. It might be the skipping of buggy low to mid tier effects/settings or the overall reduction in FPS that does the trick.

Platform: PC (Steam)

Description: Game will crash at random times (sometimes within 30 to 60 minutes, other times within 10 to 20 minutes).
I bought this game during the Steam Winter sales and have had nothing but crashes.

After the game was installed, I played for about 30 minutes. I got to the dock with the large lake, and the game crashed.

I restarted it, was able to get inside the church (solo and complete stealth, didn’t engage combat). So far, it was good.
I did a few fights against the Runners, went further north, accidentally agro’d a Hunter, and died.
After respawning, the game crashed shortly after when I ventured out again. This time I got about 50 to 60 minutes of gameplay.

I started the game up the next day, played about another 30 minutes (had a friend join me about 20 minutes in).
The game crashed like 6 to 10 minutes after he joined.
I restarted the game up, and he rejoined me, I got about 10 to 20 more minutes before the game crashed AGAIN on me.

It’s getting very annoying with all the crashes and no reason why. 4 crashes in 2 hours as frustrating.
My friend hasn’t had many crashes, and he’s played over 70 hours.

Steps To Reproduce: I honestly don’t know how, as I just try playing the game. It seems to crash at random spots and at random times for no real good reason.

Images / Videos: I don’t have any pictures right now, but I can take a picture of the Windows error saying it crashed (including the Event Viewer of what it says about the game when it crashes if that will help).

Host or Client: 2 of the crashes were when I was solo, 2 other times a friend joined me. It seemed when my friend joined me, and the crashes seem to happen much sooner.

Players in your game: Me when I was solo, a friend of mine (Tyme) when I tried coop (for him to join me).

Specifications: Since I know people will ask my hardware, this is my specs below:

  • Power Supply: 750 Watt Seasonic Gold
  • Motherboard: ASUS Z97-A/USB 3.1 LGA 1150 Intel Z97
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K (4.0 GHz)
  • CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
  • RAM: 32 GB | CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 32GB DDR3 (2400 MHz) (8 GB x 4)
  • GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Nitro+ GDDR6 (8 GB)
  • Monitor: Samsung CF390 Series Curved 24-Inch FHD Monitor (C24F390) (1920 x 1080p)
  • HDD: WD Black 4 & 6 TB (7200 RPM), WD Blue 1 TB (7200 RPM)
  • SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO 2.5" 250GB (Boot) / 860 EVO 1 TB (Often Played Games Only)
  • External HDD: 3 TB USB 3.0 WD MyBook / 8 TB WD Essentials
  • Headset: HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset (KHX-HSCP-RD)
  • OS: Windows 7 (64 Bit)
  • Keyboard: Logitech G213 Prodigy
  • Mouse: Steelseries Rival 110

(I’m not sure how detailed of hardware specs you need, so just posting them all.)

Note: This game is on my 1 TB SSD.
I know this is older DDR3, but it will be a while before I can upgrade as I will need to upgrade my CPU, Motherboard, RAM, CPU cooler all at once (which will cost me about $1,000 for what I have in my wishlist).
And I’m not upgrading to Windows 10 yet UNTIL I get the new hardware (which won’t be for a while).

When the game crashed, it was just a Windows popup saying:

"GenerationZero_F.exe has stopped working
Windows can check online for a solution to the problem.

  • Check Online for a solution and close program.
  • Close the Program."

Obviously, Windows won’t ever fix the problem. I looked over both the problem details, but nothing jumped out at me at the cause.
Even looking up the crash in Event Manager didn’t have much, I could make sense of it.
I’m not sure if it even submitted crash reports (I think I enabled that option).

If anybody needs any further information from me about my crashes, I can provide screenshots later on of the errors if that might help.

And yes, I made sure all my drivers were up to date (my GPU driver is the latest).
I’m also not sure what ingame settings I had my graphical settings at when making this post, but I can check later on. I think they were all on High, but I’m not positive.

This has been a noted issue @JediMaster80. The Devs have been notified on the issue and are looking into fixing it. This has been an issue among all platforms. @pegnose and @Zesiir as well as the Devs and other mods will confirm this.

Unless you’re having crashes with other software don’t knock yourself out trying to second guess your setup. Even where people have identical hardware some crash and some don’t. Never hurts to run a few tests to make sure your rig is in tip-top shape but you can have absolute perfection and this game can still behave that way due to whatever is wrong with it that only the devs have the power to solve.

yeah, yesterday the game ran fine for about 6 hours till it finally crashed. Today we are back to counting minutes.

I haven’t been able to get more than 3 minutes at a time since going to Pay to Play island. I am just about to the point of giving up starting it anymore.

Been nearly three weeks now since I’ve been able to play, already deleted the game and moved on. Best of luck!

Hello all I missed yesterday’s stream they did not post it on Twitter so I forgot about it. If anyone watched it did they mention these crashes at all?

Thanks,
SPP

Yes, they said that they take crashing seriously and they’re working hard on fixing the bugs. I think they also said that they hoped there would be a lot of fixes in the next patch.
That was all on that topic.

One fun thing though, pontus got surprised by a FNIX hunter teleporting into the house he was using for shelter.

LOL…I missed that funny…Darn! Thank you for the updated information & that is great to hear!

They didn’t happen to mention a fix for this specific nuisance?

@pegnose Tbh, Mat and Pontus weren’t really very familiar with the game and Mat could only give the usual “we know there are bugs are we’re working hard on them”. With the hunter they speculated it had done a jump attack and come through the ceiling, but that’s not what happens. Do we need to do another community investigation / bug report for them?
