FIXED: re-enabling ULMB through the monitors OSD instead of Nvidia panel seems to have fixed it. Game launches with 85 correctly and stays at 85.
Very odd that destiny2 or pubg launched fine with those first setttings but gen zero did not.
Oh well a bug in my monitors FW or just a glitch.
Description: So I have today been trying to get this game to run at 85/100 hz + 85/100 hardlocked fps + ULMB enabled on my monitor instead of Gsync for a change.
However, everytime I launch the game the monitor now hardlocks to 120hz. This would be fine IF I could maintain a fps of 120 but I like ultra settings and I struggle with keeping above 60 on my GTX1080@1440p at times as it is. So I now have to try and get 85hz/85fps locked.
.
But why is the game trying to change my “in windows/nvidia panel” set monitor hz?
On my monitor there is a inbuilt hertzcounter so I always have visual feedback if Gsync is enabled/working or what hz it’s currently running at.
Desktop is set to 85hz, at the moment of typing, but as soon as the game launches it jumps up to 120hz. Defeating the whole purpose of using ULMB since it needs a steady hz=fps for optimal use and I cant run this stable 120fps without sacrificing to much yummy visuals.
If I tab out of the game the desktop turns back to 85. Tabbing into the game again makes the hz counter jump around 120-85-120-120.
I tried to purge my Nvidia drivers with DDU in safemode but got the same results.
Nothing extra in Nvidia 3d settings set, only high performance and some sharpening.
Tried at 85 and 100hz monitor setting and same results.
Tried with and without monitors inbuilt OC active, same thing.
Tried fresh settings file in Avalance folder, no luck.
Tried different values for the “DisplayRefreshRate” in the settings file, no luck.
I don’t have 120hz set anywhere on the system so why is the game locking me to that upon entry?
None of my other games are acting this way when refreshrate is set to 85 or 100 with ULMB active.
Anyone able to shine any light on this “issue”…? =)
Steps to reproduce:

Host or client: Host
Players in game: 1
Specifications: asus gtx1080 + asus pg279 + win10 pro + asus z370-g + 32gb 3200mhz
Is 120 Hz the max refresh rate of your display? Is the NVidia control panel (3d settings) “Preferred refresh rate” set to “Highest available”? If yes, than this behavior is kind of expected.
EDIT: High performance, btw., should only be used for debugging (e.g. during overclocking). It does not add any performance as the GPU runs according to power and thermal plans. But it is really ugly for idle power consumption.
No. 120hz is max when using ULMB, 144/165Hz for G-sync or normal sync.
My Nvidia panel has no option for preferred refreshrate, it just says “Not available” or “program controlled” both give same results.

Yeah that option is not availble for me, only “Not availble” or “program controlled” are showing here… but that was never the problem anyhow and now it runs as expected soo… =)
Yes I’m fully aware that my monitor can only use ULMB at 85/100/120Hz or Gsync at 30-165hz and further if hacked can use ULMB+Gsync together(have not done this).
Guess I can’t trust Nvidia panel to activate ULMB even though the monitor OSD shows its active… So i’ll just have to do it from the monitor buttons from now on.
Some games don’t respect NVCP settings, V-Sync for example. Works 99% of the time, but sometimes you need to set it in the game. Might be something similar, might be something different.
You sure it wasn’t working, despite the unwanted refresh rate?
Technically it was working since I got the lower brightness and my monitor said it was on, I could change the strobe rate and so on… Only launching genzero kept changing my hz from 85 to 120 not any of my other games.
Interesting. So maybe GZ somehow forces the “Highest available” setting.
Strobe rate… cool! What can you set?
And is this one of the very new displays supporting G-Sync and ULMB at the same time? I seem to remember having read that this combo is coming at some point.
Since I can enable ULMB both in nvidia 3d option and the monitors OSD something probably just got stuck weeks ago when I did my last attempt.
I really thought I had tried every option before posting, the one I forgot to check ended up being the solution … I’ll fiddle more tomorrow and see if i can get it stuck again.
