When I first found the gas mask I was thrilled as I though this cosmetic item made my character look like a total bada*s. I put it on only to find that while I wore it I had a terrible dirty filter on my screen making it hard to see. I understand that this detail makes sense, but I find it very annoying and I would like it if there was a option to get rid of the dusty/dirty filter and just see normally ( your camera would appear just as it is without any facial/glasses item. And if you’re still reading this, thanks for your time.
The gas mask is totaslly useless. Even youll reach the bunker where you need it, its doesnt safe you at all from the gas.

No its not, it has stats that should safe you from the gas, but it doesnt work. Tried it yesterday with and without the mask. doesnt make a difference
It saves you from gas a little bit because without it your health will drop much faster
Actually it does reduce the damage by a lot… i think even half. i went into the bunker, got some rare weapon and just used 5-10 simple first aid packs for the few minutes i was in the gassed room. The vision in gas clouds is horrible though and I would recommend staying only briefly. Cheers, have a wonderful day!
Yep the filter is not the best, you put glasses on and the vision is perfekt so you clean em but the gas mask is dirty as hell and no way to clean? It doesn’t has to been clean as everything just give us a little more vision when we have to rush through gas in panic and pain ^^’’

I agree that the filter needs to be toned down a bit.
I agree. I enjoy the detail but the effect of it needs to be kept just dialed down a bit and less dirty. The same for the night vision module on the guns the night vision is way too bright so i can’t even use it because you can’t see out of it. I was hoping to see enemies in the dark but because it is too bright i am better off not using the night vision. I like it but it needs to be tweaked

Correct me if I’m wrong, but in part it’s there to make players not wear it all the time.
Also, I believe there will be better gas masks later in the game which both give better protection and have cleaner lenses.
@Hogge I don’t think that is true. There is no need to wear it all the time. The only instances you need to wear the gas mask is for some hunters and gas filled rooms in bunkers so far. But some players want to wear them because it is annoying to have to edit your character just to wear the mask when you need it. Some just want to put it on and keep it on just incase. Or some might be roleplaying a certain character setup. I for one am roleplaying as an actual army guy so i have the military helmet, military jacket, military shirt, steel dog tags, military gloves, military pants, military boots and face camo and a watch so it would only make sense that an army guy would be wearing a gas mask in an unknown apocalyptic attack of sorts lol
Well, that’s the point. Why even have gas when you can walk around protected from it at all times?
Plus, an army guy wouldn’t have a gas mask on all the time because it’s tiresome to breath and your lenses fog up. One of the platoons on my regiment had a Friday routine when they’d jog a few km in gas masks. They absolutely hated it.
Another reason it would make no sense is because if you’d have it on all the time, the filter would get clogged up.
A different solution would be to have the gas mask on some sort of hotkey, like in Battlefield 1. I don’t feel the gas mask should count as “clothes” any more than the flash light.
Its an apocalyptic world the military does not know what threat is going on and therefore would be wearing their gas masks a good majority of the time. Hence why in most zombie shows and movies most of the infection control “shoot on sight” squads keep their masks on at all times. The infection is not airbourne but they don’t know that. Which is why it would make sense for someone roleplaying as military to wear their gas masks. They don’t know what threats are in the world. Maybe their are airbourne gases that they can’t see, maybe there is an infection in the air. All your character knows is everyone is either dead or gone and there are militarized robots attacking whatever they come across. I for one enjoy the use of the gas masks and wearing them at all times. If they made the gas maks to NOT be worn at all times i am sure they would have done the exact same for every other part of clothing that gives bullet and damage resistance. I found clothing that practically makes me 100% bullet proof woth my perks. Every shot i take i only lose 2 HP. I just find it pointless to wear those clothing items because it makes the game too easy. The devs put the gas mask for gas resistence and as a clothinf item for those who want to wear the mask at all times. Same as the rest of the clothing. Its a form of difficulty as well. Those who want an easier game will wear every clothing item that has a perk to make the game easier and those that want a challenge won’t use any of the clothing perks. The only clothing perk i use is on the gas mask but because the vision is so blurry and dark i keep the mask off but i have kept my mask on for 4 hours straight in the game hoping to get used to the blurry vision but i can’t. So i like many other people hope they dial down that effect and still keep it at the same time.
Do as you wish, but no soldier would ever have his/her mask on at all times because it’s detremental to your performance in battle.
I wish the filter was toned down. It’s super hard to see in gas and night on the PS4 pro. I like rolling with it on so it’s kinda ruff on the edges for sure
The gas Mask does work, but in a strange way. I first must mention I have the chemist skill unlocked.
Starting with 100 health and a gas Mask on, I entered a gas filled room and it depleted my health to 18 then stopped. (I told you it works in a strange way)
Save you meds for after you leave the room.

What would be cool if you could wear it at all times with no filter on the screen to block your view because it looks so cool. And I also hope they add beards to the game.

Ripped from Metro as an idea, in my opinion. Why make it dirty to begin with? And, I’m not sure if any of you play it on the PS4, but the dirt on the mask actually drops the framerate for me. And, the gas mask should completely stop you from getting hurt…IT’S GAS NOT RADIATION. And, one more notion is that the gas mask doesn’t always protect you as it should. There are at least 2 bunkers, the only one I remember is Uttern, that the gas mask when on keeps you from losing 20 health at a time, with it, like 10 or so points; any other bunkers it is 3 points of damage.
