Gun state in a militarized nation

So, per the game’s exposition we learn that after the war Sweden armed it’s citizens and taught them how to use them, along with making sure that they have ammo and such. But when we come back from our trip, all we can find are rusted and chipped guns, cracked scopes, poorly maintained suppressors, and other such loot.

Now, I know the loot gets better the further in you go, but that’s not an excuse, it’s a cop out. I believe we’re looking at the guns the wrong way. The guns could go Far Cry 2’s route (where we keep the dilapidated features and include jamming and misfires), or we do something better.

All guns start at a base of “Normal” or “Good” quality.

From there, you have the tiers, but they make more sense in a “Military” area:

  • Normal
  • Customized
  • Exceptional
  • Military
  • Legendary (Named and custom skin)

Scopes shouldn’t have cracks in them, they’d be discarded and new ones bought in an economy with this kind of mindset. HOWEVER, I think wear and tear on what you get is a neat concept. So you pick up a pristine scope and over time it gets small cracks that develop into bigger ones, leading you to need new ones or seek out repair kits. That way you can still have cracks/dirty scopes and poorly maintained suppressors and such, but you can remedy it, or just replace them. It would mean taking care of your gun so it takes care of you.

I agree …some hand grenades would be nice…

There are hand grenades in the game and you will get a lot of em, don’t worry.

But this weapons and scopes are getting old, used and need to repair stuff would for me go too strong into the survival and i’m happy that this game is so soft in survival. I’m happy to have my lvl 5 weapon and don’t have to worry about the point that have to discard or repair it. So it would be need more space in the inventory to carry the repair stuff or an backup weapon and we have not enough space for such things.

Yeah hand grenades/smoke grenades are everywhere when they start showing up lol. Sounds like people want more of a Dayz type game and I’m very happy it’s not that much into “survival” or I wouldn’t be playing it :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I can understand not wanting to repair things, it could be a game toggle for people that want that kind of experience (like me.), and people joining wouldn’t have it affect their game.

However that doesn’t address the gun state issue I brought up. The dilapidated guns vs. guns in better states. In a militarized nation, it doesn’t add up. People aren’t going to keep a rusted, chipped shotgun just lying around. They’d maintain it because it’d be drilled into their head that they need to be ready at a moment’s notice.

So, my takeaways:

  • Have an option that’s a toggle on game-state for those that want a different experience where scopes and suppressors have wear (as they would in real life.), guns could be an additional toggle, with legendary guns never running out of durability (they’re legendary after all.)

  • Grenades do show up, I’ve gotten them, they’re a little underwhelming, but they’re there.

  • I’d still like to see a better vision of a nation that’s ready for war at a moment’s notice, with gun quality being baseline “Good” and then going from there. I believe that would make sense. “Good” could become “Civilian”, for example. It would just be a skin of a common, in store gun. Then after that could come a customized civilian type, where it’s got bonuses. After that we have Military, then customized military (with skin and bonuses), and then legendary, with a skin that is completely different, this is the 80s, let’s see some neon.
