Since the Rivals release I’ve conveyed my feelings about them in more postings that the majority here probably care to read. I think that my main objection to them is how they are announced (as a message on the screen) and how they are plottet (on the map). But since then things have changed. @Avalanche_Graham is giving us daily updates on Contact that suggest the existence of a resistance which really could be a game changer, bringing new life to the story and hope to us lonely survivors. I guess, however, that teaming up with the survivors is not happening just yet (which if fine by me). But they could communicate to us, perhaps.
So here’s a simple idea. A new mission will lead us to a portable CB radio. It doesn’t transmit that far but it receives well so it’ll be one way communication only. We can carry it in a slot like the binoculars. Once a while we’ll receive messages with missions or other game relevant information. Which could be like “A rival tank has been spottet near Hagaboda harbour. It seems to be level 2. Codename: The Bloody Beast of ….”. Once in the area, the stomping sound will most likely lead us to it. Then showing the Rivals position on the map could be made optional.
You beast! That’s my idea! Missions by radio, from the mainland. Thief! I even put in the bit about destroying new machines. This is my life story - everyone else gets the credit. I’m not bitter at all…
Yes, I stole it from you without any kind of regret or remorse
Everybody, this is @Bootie’s idea! I only stole it to add the Rival announcement thing. There, @Bootie, I hereby humbly give it back to you. The credit is yours!
Nah, keep it - no one listens to me anyway. You know all about coding and stuff - I’m just a writer working in France for just over minumum wage helping the long-term unemployed back into work, what do I know? The important thing is the game, and us community of gamers. It’s a cracking idea, and the fact that we both thought of it makes it probably a winner. Let’s sell it to the rest, together…
I think it’s the future of all missions and the ongoing game, not just rivals.
Hey, that is my line!!! Anyway, it is your idea and I support it!
Ahh, France … food, wine, and pretty girls! Spend 6 months there in the early 90’s doing my thesis. I should have spend less time on my thesis and more time on food, wine, and pretty … well, that is history now
