I know this place is dead, but

Yes, this place is dead, and nobody may even see this. Even the devs and all of them. If they were to just undo the base defense missions they screwed up, go back to the original materials for building things in your base, undo the screw up they made with crafting, and use those materials, to let you fight in a tank and/or jet, without adding new enemies (since we were already screwed with the Russian machines), and give you prestige points and rewards for taking out machines with a tank and/or jet, then MAYBE just MAYBE this and would have life breathed back into it.

As I said, I know not many people (or possibly any), will see this. However, these are my true thoughts. And this post is probably my final real feedback. And I just hope, and beg that the old dev team sees this, and actually correctts their mistakes. I’m not the only one who feels this way. If there are any comments left on this post, I will gladly look at them. I just won’t guarantee a reply.

Peace out.

I’m new to the game I’m having a blast. Wish I had tried this great game sooner. Just wanted to say I read you message. I hope you get the changes you’re looking for brother!

Some of those things are expected to change, like new resources and things like that, though they weren’t planned out really well. Where they really went wrong with the game is when they stopped looking at it as a survival game, everything went down hill from there

I agree, but also disagree.
The game, its world and the story were said to be evolving. And that’s what it did.
But I agree that in some extents it didn’t evolve in that way that I (and for sure many many others) expected.

On the other hand, after the catastrophal launch of the game, not many expected to get an improved experience just a few years later.

It’s been said very often: it’s a great game, but so much lost or wasted potential. And I’ll never want to have missed it.

Couldn’t agree more, I still have a blast playing the game, my biggest complaint is all the bugs they left us with, but I still enjoy it a ton

Generation Zero has become like the real 1980’s.
A distant memory of great times, now gone by.

I was instantly hooked on GZ from the very first trailer I saw back in late 2018. I pre-ordered the game and played it from day one, march 26’th 2019. I had the time of my life playing it, and I also had a great time being a very active member of this forum for the first 3 years. I miss this time (and the people on the forum) so, so much.

From the point after the DLC «FNIX Rising», I have pretty much disagreed with most of what they’ve added to the game. I sincerely believe that the soviet invasion, and everything that has to do with base building/assault/defense, has utterly destroyed what GZ originally was. It was a hardcore, unforgiving survival-shooter drenched in cold war-mystery and 80’s nostalgia, beautifully wrapped in a unique scandinavian setting. It was one of a kind, and a once in a lifetime experience.

The memories of early years GZ, and those from this forum in it’s glory days, will stay with me for decades to come.

Those of you who came late to the party, know that you discovered something great, but also that you missed out on something even greater.

Agreed : the base rhetoric made it an arcade game.

Spot on @NJR87, I couldn’t have said it better. Playing weekends and evenings after work, then checking in on the forum, starting out seriously with questions and experiences with the game, and then horsing around a bit with the very, very nice people in here, this place became my favorite “pub” for a long time, sometimes rivalling the love for the game itself. Something very special! I could name so many good “buddies” in here - you included - but I think that @Zesiir deserves special credit. Really excellent bartending - balanced and fair and a brilliant ambassador for the game and the studio.

Yes, this place might be dying, and the doors will eventually be barred as the taps run dry and the chairs get stacked in the corner. But it will be remembered by many for a long time to come .

I agree completely, that was about the time I stopped playing the game as often

The control points being added was where I started to become less interested in playing as much as I did in the past. My base building days are far behind me with games like the Command and Conquer series or Warzone 2100. They did base building and defending so much better. Gen Zero has a better story and great set of missions, but after buying Gen Zero it was turned into a full-blown base defense/build game after 3 years of playing the game. Gen Zero of today would not be a game that I would even consider buying.
The write up needs updating on the store page :

“Generation Zero is a stealth-action shooter where you wage guerilla warfare against lethal mechanical enemies. Explore a vast open world map inspired by the Swedish Cold War era, take part in the resistance alone or with up to three friends in seamless co-op.”

Where does it say it is a base building game? And co-op has never been seamless.

Depends on the definition.
As a guest it never mattered when you join a party. You have always been able to join, leave and come back again to play GZ cooperative. You could just roam or even join playing through the missions. Your personal progress has never been important for that.

But there always was a great inconsistency regarding the question if the - as guest - achieved progress is saved for you own world. And with introducing the 4 worlds it became almost impossible.

Nevertheless… In my eyes coop is seamless, just as they wrote. They didn’t promise more.

Perhaps it is a bit too early to write the obituary for GZ and close the bar after all  - it is so cool to welcome new guests and see all the activity going on in here  :+1:

Far too early! I’m relatively new to this forum and find it very much alive. Please don’t bring me down with all this talk of death, silence, wasted potential etc!:grinning: I finally jumped into multiplayer not long ago, and it completely changed the experience for me. I’ve made some genuine lifelong friends through it, and the sense of community in GZ is something I’ve rarely found in other online games. Getting involved with all community aspects (yes Reddit and discord too!) really does change how you feel about the world. Probably stating the obvious there! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

What’s really surprised me is how much this forum has added to my enjoyment. It’s opened up all kinds of new perspectives and theories I’d never considered. I’ve already met some brilliant people here, and I genuinely look forward to checking in after work just to see what new discoveries or ideas are being shared. It’s definitely a more discerning crowd here and the responses I get more thoughtful/considered than other places.

And I get all the talk from past days, it sure sounds like I missed the golden age of GZ, when players were talking directly with the devs and looking forward to every new update together and it was more a proper horror survival game too. I wasn’t there for that, that ship has sailed, so I can only judge what’s here today. And what’s here today, I absolutely adore.

This game/forum is not dead, it’s full of life, secrets and head scratching debate. And yes, people love to talk about “wasted potential,” but you could say that about any game if you really wanted to. GZ is a brilliant experience right now. If more people took the time to get involved and join in these discussions, they’d realise just how amazing this game really is.:grinning:

The forums will stay open for as long as possible. They’re still Avalanche property and the only upkeep required is a software update every now and then. I just poke the devs when that happens. So this place is far from dead.

That’s the spirit @Zesiir!!!:grinning:I didn’t even realise Avalanche owned the forum, makes it more special knowing it’s part of the official space. Thanks for keeping it going! It’s such a great hub for ideas, theories, and just good conversations. Really glad to hear it’s here to stay! Whoop whoop!

@TimData, please don’t let anything in here put you down :slightly_smiling_face:. We are a bunch of very diverse people in this forum that has one thing in common: we like (or even love) the game and the forum. We have all sorts of opinions about what this game should be or, more precisely, should have developed into, and sometimes we almost violently disagreed on updates and changes to the direction the game took. But I believe we all agree - especially those of us still active in here - that GZ is a marvellous game. Despite that it failed to meet all our different expectations (which by the way would have been Impossible).

And I think that exchange of opinions have always been conducted in a friendly and orderly manner. In the very few exceptions, the moderators stepped in and fixed things. So as long as you respect the CoC, the worst thing that can happen to you is, that you loose your Regular status and never get it back :joy:

New people are still finding the forum, huh?
I just realized it’s been over 6 years since I joined this forum! Time flies!

I would really love to know if there still are secrets or easter eggs in the game, we didn’t find yet.

I mean, who knows… Something like the iron church… I would never have found it, if I wouldnt have read about it. It isn’t very obvious that there is a hidden entrance behind a rock that can be shot with two rockets… There is no other known rock like that.

And as long as there are these unknowns, which GZ has or at least had to offer many, there is room for discussion and speculation.

Too many players just saw a sci-fi shooter in GZ.
That’s why the game more and more became just a shooter… You know, meet the expectations… Many left early, because of technical issues… Others left later, because of the grind that truly became too much.
But those who went deeper into GZ, they are still here.

We are the creative ones. Not just the consumers.

I couldn’t agree more, I can’t tell you how many people I’ve talked to that tried the game and just gave up too quick to really understand the game, which is definitely a bummer but, for the people that gave it a real try it’s an absolute blast

I’ve spend hours upon hours criss-crossing the map looking for anormalies. And I would have expected something on the new island. There are some interesting caves that could hide a secret, but I didn’t discover anything. And climbing the steep slopes of the high coast (Höga Kusten) didn’t reveal anything either :slightly_frowning_face:

Isn’t it funny how a hidden cave can give you a rush? Exploration was one of the things I valued the most about GZ :slightly_smiling_face: Perhaps someone with good relations to the devs (:shield:) could one day drop a hint, if we should have missed something?
