Interesting locations

Ah, yes, I remember. The spooky toilet.

Not sure if this is deliberate, but the three Soviet Beacons at Hagaboda docks are gone. Can anybody confirm? SR_Carni do you know if these are removed and why?

Was it intended that they come back each session? Originally they were just mission related, but came back every day.

If it’s a fixed bug now, why not?

It doesn’t bother me if they are gone, but I just like to know if they were removed.

I posted a postcard of this. But it fits as an interesting location, don’t you think? :coffee:

When I started this topic almost 5 years ago, I began with asking what the small concrete “pillboxes” on Himfjäll were. Click here to see.

Now that question has finally been answered. They are indeed elevators to underground complexes, like some people thought back then as well.

Just thought I’d share that thought as I remembered this topic from way back.

(And I also figured this was a legitimate reason to resurrect this topic!)

And while I’m at it: Dang, it feels good to be exploring a new island again. I was afraid it would never happen, but here we are.

Ahhhhh, Aspholmen Island, such a fascinating spot!!

Right now, I’m at the FOA 2 facility in the south of the island and it turns out there are a few different ways to get inside. There’s the more obvious route through the sewage system, either by dropping down a deep shaft or using what feels like the tradesmen’s entrance further along the path west. But while I was actually birdhouse hunting, I stumbled across a hidden way in and it’s a pretty interesting one.

If you head to the front of the massive doors and climb up the rocks on the right hand side, you can drop down on top of the bulky entrance structure. Facing the FNIX scanner point in the distance, on your left there’s a concrete ledge that you can drop onto. Once there you can turn around and crawl into the very bedrock the facility is built into! No explosives required! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: It really feels like an intentional pathway.

What you’ll find inside is a striking view of the facility’s inner machinery, full of haunting lighting and industrial detail. It reminds me of a set from the Alien films, a perfect photo spot for my Machine Gnome Mask! It’s atmospheric and creepy, especially with the sound design in there.

Not totally sure if this is the right thread for this kind of discovery, maybe it fits better under a glitches or hidden areas topic idk, I’m still learning my way around this forum. Either way, there’s so much more to uncover on this brilliant island! :grinning:

Very nice, I will have a look tomorrow. :coffee:

Brilliant! Sadly, no bones or boxes down here! :sob:

I visited your spot, and I loved it.
However when you get deeper in, you can get to parts of the structure that are normally not accessible. So, I don’t think this alternative route is intentional. There are too many places you can get stuck, and need to fast travel out. Still a nice find. So I added it to the map to remember.

You just made my day! Having something I found added to the Gysbert map is such a big thing for me!
I see the logic in what you mean about the area not being fully intentional, I got stuck at the bottom of the pit snd had to FT out! But it’s those weird little corners of Ostertorn that make exploring so rewarding for me, love it! Thanks again for checking it out and giving it a spot on the map, I’m genuinely buzzing about that!:grinning: You’ve made an old Gnome very happy!

I mean, you’re not supposed to be there… Communicating such openly on the forums is not something
we usually encourage.

But, since the game is no longer being worked on I doubt it’ll be fixed. So I don’t think it matters much anymore.

Apologies for that. I’ll be more mindful in future.:grinning: It’s really nice to meet you, though!

Thought I’d share another interesting location within Aspholmen that I found surprisingly fun. If you head to these coordinates: -6039.409,
471.775 you’ll be by the side of a massive gorge with what looks like a military tank hanging off the edge. No clue how it ended up like that (probably fighting the Stridsvagn 103 which is also nearly falling off) but there’s a cable stretching deep down into the chasm from the first tank, attached to what seems like another part of a military tank. The anatomy of it all is a bit hard to make sense of, but that’s part of the chaos, it feels like something went very wrong here!

You can get a great view of the whole thing if you explore through the large cave system and look at it from the other side.

Now for the best part: after a long day of fighting FNIX’s machines, grab your squad and try to get down onto that tank head platform without falling into the sea below. Trust me, it’s way harder than it looks! Getting the fall right and not sliding off or knocking over your teammate is skill in itself!

Make it a little team challenge, see if you can all stay standing on that platform together and have a mini victory band session (or awkward crouch party, your call). Just don’t forget to bring adrenaline shots, because odds are at least one of you’s gonna miss a step and take a plunge! Sorry about the quality of the last victory screenshot, couldn’t download it properly.

Let me know if you’ve managed it! :grinning:

When I saw these hanging tanks (there’ s two) I thought that the cables they hang from were their own pneumatic hoses. I will try to get a close up via like you said, with my squad, me, myself and I. :coffee:

Ok, my squad descended with the help of gravity to the hanging tank.
It was night, but we did not see any Shooting stars.

Me awkwardly perched first…

Then myself performed a balancing perch.

And daredevil I jumped from the tank to a ledge on the left.

Haha yes! Get in!!! I’m so glad you gave it a go @Gysbert and impressed you made it to the tank head and even managed the ledge nearby in one piece! That drop isn’t forgiving at all, and most squads I’ve been with end up with more adrenaline shots wasted than selfies! :joy:

Love that you went full daredevil with the tank to edge jump too. It’s tricky even in daylight for me, let alone at night. Thanks for keeping an eye out for comets too! No shooting stars maybe… but that landing was definitely a five star performance! Uggghh:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Also curious to hear your conclusions on the tank’s odd anatomy and those cables, looks more engineered than accidental. Thought they were tank tracks at first glance, but I’m sure there’re not.

No doubt Aspholmen’s still holding secrets. There are definitely more intriguing spots out there worth exploring!

Well I think it’s 2 tanks down the rockface, because I believe I saw 2 heads, even though the light was minimal. The upper tank has its feet buried in the ground and hanging head down. It has two cables attached to itself and to the 2nd tank below. No sure anymore if they were hydraulic hoses. They looked more like rails. But you might want to check that out in daylight.

I hope so. I have been searching high and low and hope to do many more exploring expeditions. Some of the obvious spots are just begging for explanations as to what they are or used for. :point_left:
