Rumour has it source code for cs:go and tf2 has been leaked. Rumour has it even steam games in general can be at risk to let hackers gain access to your computer.
Is there any truth to these rumours? Since im not a computer pro, these rumours kinda scare me.
Is it safe to play generation Zero without any risk of letting ppl gain access to some hidden backdoor on my computer(trough steam)
If the Steam is compromised (and that is a big IF), then it doesn’t matter which Steam game you play.
Though, any breaches to your PC happen either on OS level (outdated OS), poor network security (e.g public wi-fi), leaked/weak passwords or via malware.
Also, leaked source code for the game doesn’t give instant access via Steam. What it does give, is easier modification of the game to create e.g mods for the game.
In the end, rumor is just hearsay without any proof. There are rumors that Earth could be flat and Australia even doesn’t exist. So, there’s that.
I’ve played GZ since it’s launch and i have never had any security issue with GZ or Steam. However, if you are concerned people getting access to your devices, best protection would be not using any piece of hardware that connects to the internet.
You don’t run any risk when playing the game , if code of the game is leaked the worse that can happen is a new generation a hacks for the game . The only danger is if steam passwords get leaked which from what i know has never happen , also they’re is a possibility for hackers to “break” the code but considering the everyday updates that’s not going to happen any time soon .
