Japanese dialog "Codename Jade" begins immediately

The game I’m trying to play is Generation Zero.

Platform: PC Steam, Cyberpower PC, 16MB, AMD Ryzen 7 3700 8-core 3.6GHZ

Description: Japanese dialog overlays game audio, repeats.

Steps To Reproduce: Start game

Images / Videos: Does not effect video

Host or Client: NA

Players in your game: 1

Specifications: As soon as the game begins, even before the first menu, a loud recording in Japanese of an excited man, maybe 2, joined close to end by a woman’s voice, overlays the game audio. It lasts for 1.5 minutes, pauses for 30 sec. and repeats, forever. The only English words are “Codename, Jode”.

I have downloaded and reloaded: no change. Gameplay is unaffected, but impossible long term.

Am I the only person who has experienced this?

What game are you talking about?
This forum just is for Generation Zero.
You should move to the steam forums and search the appropriate section.

I posted on the GZ forum because the problem is with GZ. I do appreciate that someone responded, however.

That is weird. I think you need to verify game-files, or re-install the game. And see if that helps.

Did both, thanks. This is the wierdest bug I have ever encountered.

It’s not sure yet, that it is a GZ bug. It could be something on your end that is causing it.
Can you show us a video of this?

Edit:
“Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade made a major appearance at Ubisoft Forward 2023. At Ubisoft Forward 2023, the developer provided an update on a handful of its Assassin’s Creed titles, one of which was the previously-announced Codename Jade, a mobile title set in Ancient China”

Sometimes when browsing websites, news, articles… on my mobile, there suddenly some adds in the background start playing.
This issue almost sounds the same, like if there is a browser instance in the background that plays this short sequence again and again.

I stipulate that I do not speak or read Japanese. At he end of the audio clip the speaker says, in heavily accented English, “Codename: Jade (or Jode)”. It is a promo for something. I did the same as you and Googled it and ended up in the same place: Assassins Creed. OK, but how did it get there and how do I get it out? IDK if it is a GZ hiccup or a Steam/Valve prob.

It is indeed a weird thing that is happening. Any chance to make a video of this?
I am very curious.

Have you checked the task manager on your PC when this is happening to see if something strange is running?
Have you contacted Steam about this?
Do you have any 3rd party program running, like mods, or browser which might have an promo/ad running?

Complete shot in the dark, but I remember similar issues in various discussions on wildly different games and with varying audio. The culprit might be an audio file of a game or soundtrack that has been added to Steam. Steam occasionally adds game audio to its integrated Music player and plays it on inopportune occasions.

The biggest issue is that the recent Steam update did away with the audio player, so you may have to find out where the ‘audio library’ files and cache were stored, and delete that folder. For me, it’s Program files (x86) → Steam → music. Deleting the folder when Steam is closed should force a rebuild when you start Steam again, and ideally, the problem should vanish. You won’t delete any audio files with that method - the folder only contains a library file.

Thanks for your suggestions and help from all in the community. The problem was indeed with Steam. The culprit was a program that is called “SteamWebHelper”. I uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it and the problem was gone. There are plenty of opinions about SteamWebHelper on the web for those who want more information.

Thanks again - now I play.

I found this in Steam discussions when I got that sound problem.

"It could be the music player in Steam. Steam > Settings > Music.
Remove any folder paths listed, uncheck the Scan options, and click the Reset Database button to empty it.

Big picture mode also has audio settings that include ambient sounds and music that are separate settings from in the client settings options. Open Big Picture Mode and make sure they’re turned off too."

To get out of big mode => menu / power / exit big mode
