Any information about the update?
I would agree but I don’t have any other games
Bit of a sticky situation regarding the PS4 May update…sure we have this game breaking crash issue, which is probably the worse form of a bug, but what has me puzzled is how did it not only get through PlayStation Cert, but leave the studio after being ‘signed off’ ? Surely they patch must have been tested in a way the end user would have received it? I’d find it amazing if this issue wasn’t presenting itself during the creation of this update, and then the subsequent package that would install itself, thus bringing the PS4 version up to 1.05 in-house, before we got access to it…even how Sony passed it off too. Typically I found myself doing some hardcore multi-hour sessions the week leading up to the May update with great excitement…ah well, worse things happen at sea as my mam like to say
Just a day ago in this very thread, you said “Fix your tone when talking to other community members,” then offer sarcasm to a professional that knows how the actual software industry works. If Sony has things weird, that’s one thing; however, he is speaking off of his own professional experience in which I can corroborate. You don’t just delete code once you’ve (poorly) promoted a broken update. Rollbacks are part of the industry, so it’s a proper assumption that there is a process in place for such actions to be taken and is in NO WAY POSSIBLE a longer process than adding new updates to fix old. Allow people their frustration, man. They have earned it at this point.
I’m pretty sure a rollback would have been simple…just tell Sony to remove the 1.05, (Other companies have done this in the past) reissue the April update, and worse case, we just reinstall GZ and let it ‘find’ the reissued 1.04 update?
^That. Offer instruction to reinstall after removing the patch.
I’ve made software for case management in the digital forensic industry as well as a few Android apps. I get that you’re trying to be snarky, but software is software and it’s just common sense to keep backups of your previous versions. You don’t have to be condescending, especially as an official rep (albeit a volunteer) for the company.
Graham himself said that a rollback would have been more of a hassle than doing the update, so that’s the point I’m making.
For that snarky comment, I apologize, I guess I got defensive. That was unprofessional
I thought we all were supposed to have a nice tone on the forum, your post have to be the most sarcastic post ever
And I don’t seeing anybody crying over that, my point is, it’s just a forum with a lot of members, most of the members is disappointed on the feedback from the developers, no need for you to act like a shield, they are grown ups and are supposed to take care of there own actions, even if you love their product, keep distance and be neutral, sometimes is it better to act like a nagging
wall and listen to the complains and make sure that the people I charge knows about it.
No one is mad at you so don’t take the hit from the one who is in charge.
Sorry for my incredible bad gramma and ability to write in english.
Yes, I clearly missstepped with that comment. It won’t happen again
I honestly think it’ll be easier to do a rollback Fox the update test it then if all is good send it out but that’s my opinion
Apparently it aint that easy. Even though they should have the 1.04 update saved.
You didnt say anything offensive or personal attacking. That kid though doesnt seem to understand business. I completely agree with everything you said so far. If I was an investor and saw this disaster unfold, I would pull my money from that company and urge the other investors to do the same. The fact that it hasnt yet is astounding.
Thank god that I’m not the only one, started to lose fate
My own rule has always been make shore you do the absolute best you can on the job, and make shore to not screw it up, if it’s something important or urgent, check and recheck again, better to be safe then sorrow.
Just gonna reiterate just one thing so shoot me down if ye must > @SR_Carni is a volunteer Moderator , and like us all is a gamer that want’s this title to succeed , and is just as annoyed as us all that this game has had a broken start , this was not the only thread he has read and replied too bouncing from topic to topic , so not excusing his temporary salt of the day moment , but we all been there Right ? - peace
Ps store will refund you if it is a non working game its in there policy i got my money back
Have you ever tried to submit code to the likes of Nintendo, Sony or MS on their distribution platforms?
In the case of Nintendo it takes about a month to get anything released, if there is anything at all they don’t like then you have to resubmit an updated version.
Downgrades still have the same approval process, friends still in the game industry say Sony and MS are similar but a little less strict and a little faster.
Steam and the Epic store are a lot easier and faster.
So don’t just say it’s easy to push a new patch, it’s a bit easier if you are the games company equivalent of a 350Kg gorilla but even they have to wait and jump through some hoops.
I also worked on a huge criminal justice organisation case management system (Microsoft host a case study on the Causeway project) as well as co-authoring several helpdesk, image management, page pairing and distribution (newspaper pages to printing sites across Europe and the US )
Before that I spent several years optimising and debugging other people’s game code (when the original devs could not fix or speed up their own code) plus developing protection and speed critical routines.
So I do have experience in both aspects of development requirements, so when I say
trying to compare the two implies a lack of experience on your part.
I’m sorry if I sound harsh but I’d rather be called rude than let somebody unknowingly saying ridiculous things especially when others are likely having a laugh in private.
I’m also a little tired of people with very little knowledge or experience saying how easy things are to do (there have been utterly ridiculous statements by others)
Seriously fire up a compiler (Visual C++, GoLang, C# or whatever) and create an OpenGL based project with a ground plane, half a dozen simple textured objects, a very you can steer around and tolerable collision detection (about 0.1% of a game.)
You could choose DirectX rather than OpenGl but not some off the shelf game engine where you just join the dots .
Then I suspect you will be a bit more sympathetic and understanding to the current position the Devs are in.
Yes I have whined about this game, but mostly due to the lack of information passed to us by the company, as a line in the patch notes saying things like “clipping through walls is being worked on BUT it’s still not ready”
A little information can make a huge difference
BTW I no longer work in software development as non game development was simply pushing records into databases and making SQL requests and you can’t do a good job if only your patience is being taxed.
Here’s a pal , peace , and i can say i only laugh at stupid comment’s like my one here , go on
laugh , i don’t mind , cheers
It may not have been yourself the post was directed towards.
There has been so much negativity (and some outright nastiness) that I can understand why a certain moderator wasn’t his usual positive and kind self.
I however am not a moderator and have been in development since the mid 80s and am capable of saying why somebody is doing themselves (and others) no favours with their statements.
Reign it in. I’ve made plenty of small 3D games in my spare time too, and I’m not trying to compare the experience. I’m not saying I’m some AAA developer, I’m simply saying that a rollback should always be faster than a new patch. That’s it. No need to flex your massive programmer pecs to prove a point.
