soooo i joined a friends worl and for some reason i was looting flaslights from boxes like i know you can loot them when they are pick ups in the world howeevr i never seen them in boxes and they dissapear after i pick them up

Once you already have one flashlight then picking up another one doesn’t give you additional flashlight. Same is with clothing items, e.g you already have Eye Patch and when you find 2nd one, you won’t get two of them.
i am aware of this my question is why? why is it a lootable and a pick up in the first place ?
Completely agree.
Everything should have a confirmation if you already have it. Picking up items for the sake of items that have no benefit, when you are already at maximum is pointless.
Clothing especially…do I need this item? It used to give a little + symbol - but now I have to check my profile to check inventory. Also, the balance is off, Gas Mask weights less than a paperclip…?

Clothing does not have weight.
If you pick up the clothing item you already have then you won’t get it’s name as a pop-up of picked up items on the right side of the screen. If you do get the pop-up with it’s name then you didn’t had it before.
As of why duplicate pickups are possible for only one possible instance of that item - that i don’t know.
Items have weight, gas masks for example. Textiles, Cotton etc…clothes are weightless.

well i was refering to the gas mask i didnt know it had weight
Gas Mask is part of the Apparel, under Eye Wear section and it doesn’t have weight in-game, just like all other clothing apparels.
