Hello
I logged in today and my character (level 29) was lost. My account with Xbox was still present. Xbox still working otherwise. Game was like I had never played before.
What has happened to my character? Can it be retrieved?

It’s an Xbox One. No problems with it normally. Never had this problem with Gen Zero or other games before. Internet is working.
Did you play it at all on PC since you last played on Xbox?
Did you get a “Synching” screen when launching it?
Thanks - no I don’t play it on my PC at all - not downloaded.
Re the ‘Synching’ screen - something flashed up the first time I started it and noticed the problem just after but I can’t remember what it said.
Ok. Have you changed Xbox or played it on another Xbox since you last played?
He’s loaded in and cancelled the sync to recover his profile.

Re ‘cancelling the sync’ seems like an extreme consequence that there is no way of reversing this or going back. Is that really it?
Unfortunately, no. Not really.
If it was trying to synch then by cancelling it at that point you prevented the Xbox from retrieving your most recent save and essentially told it start over with a fresh save.
Then when you’ve finished it will back-up your new fresh save over the old one you told it to skip.

Wow. Too much in a hurry and pressed the wrong button and all over in about a second!
Anyway have restarted on the PC now. I’m so much better at the game and it’s actually fun to do it again but better and with more thought.

Because you are on PC, you can make manual save of the game save map in another location on you disk. Then if you regularly make save back ups you can restore the saves yourself. I recommend you start doing this.
