"N" to switch ammo doesn't always work

Platform: PC

Description: While sitting in the Ringfort Safehouse, I grabbed my AG5 from storage. I didn’t equip it with ammo despite having ~2000 rounds already in my inventory. When I exited back to the main view, I noticed the AG5 had no ammo attached. When I hit N to “switch ammo” nothing loaded. I had to go back into my inventory and manually add the ammo.

Steps To Reproduce: I grabbed the AG5 from storage and didn’t load ammo. Once back at the main view (player view), I hit N to switch ammo. Nothing loaded. I went back into inventory (I) and manually loaded the ~2000 rnds.

Images / Videos: I have a video (40mb) that shows the issue with a different weapon.

Host or Client: single-player mode

Players in your game: 0

Specifications: PC. Windows 10 Education 10.0.19041, Intel i5-8600K, Asus TuF Z370-Plus mb, 16GB RAM. NVidia GTX-1050ti running drivers 446.14 @ 1920x1080, 1TB SSD, Corsair gaming keyboard + Corsair wired gaming mouse running driver 3.28.70.

As far as i understood the new feature, the “N” key is to switch already loaded ammo, e.g FMJ to AP, without you needing it to do manually within inventory (which you still can). However, it doesn’t mean it also has to automatically reload your empty weapon.

We’ve added the ability to switch your ammo type on a weapon with a single button press, without having to navigate to your inventory

If you run out of ammo in game, you can hit N to switch to available ammo. So, the gun has 0 rounds loaded, and if you viewed the weapon in inventory it should show no ammo attached. Back to the scenario in the first sentence, you can simply hit N to load the appropriate carried ammo to this “empty” weapon. However, the “bug” I reported with the N key, while fitting the scenario I just described, still doesn’t function correctly in my mind.

I’ve noticed this specifically when picking up ammunition to my already empty gun. It’s very neat in general to be able to switch on the fly and that it does automatically when you do run out, but this specific issue applies whenever my weapon is emptied of all ammunition types and I just picked up a different type that was not loaded in the gun previously.

In the moment of me running out ammunition and finding some, but not loading it made the situation troublesome, but there was enough cover to escape and properly load the ammunition. At this point this bug appears at rare cases, but is still noteworthy. No matter how big of an issue this is, from now on I’d love seeing polish to systems to be smooth in gameplay
