Needs in-game guidance about non-persistent inventory

I’m new, with about 100 hours in 2-3 weeks.

I bought most of the DLC, and I’ve lost some because I didn’t know how inventory works.

In once case, I needed to drop some items in a safe house so I could move to the recycling table and break down old items. I logged out and back. The backpack I’d dropped was gone, which was a sad surprise. Some explanation should be given to new players about that, perhaps in the dialog that says, “All unsaved changes will be lost.”

Similar but much worse, I set up the combat area for Tidal Wave with bullet turrets from my purchased DLC, and all my land mines as well. It was the end of a long session and late and night, so I logged out, planning to start the battle in the morning. When I came back, all the gear I set up was gone. There really needs to be a warning about that. How are players supposed to know?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

I don’t know of to many video games that provide in game storage then to toss things on the ground, exit the area or game and come back and it still be there. Dropping things on the ground is how things are tossed away in video games.

The turrets you deployed are for very limited time use anyway.

That’s how it usually works.
If you drop something and leave, it’s gone.

For me it was clear. Where should it end up else? Maybe a new machine… Wall-E

But I must admit that it wasn’t as clear for me that this is also how it works for placed mines. I had exactly the same experience a few years ago.

I put it in the drawer for “that’s how we learn best: experiences”.
