New player, question about Specializations

Just a simple question: Do Specializations themselves require a skill point to unlock, or do you only need to build up a skill tree to the point of having just one point into the last skill?

Hypothetical scenario: I’m building up the Combat tree to unlock the Vanguard specialization, but putting one point into Trigger Happy uses up my last skill point at 31. Will I still be able to activate Vanguard, or would I need one more point to do so?

Yes, you need to spend a point to unlock specializations.

A skill respec is coming on Thursday, so if this information does screw up your build you’ll have another chance to make it right.
