New to GZ - so far so good

Hey all
I bought Gz in Ps4 the other day and just wanted to give a massive thumbs up - it’s a great game.
Yes it has bugs but it’s massive and that’s what I love a game that takes ages to complete and explore.
Keep the content coming guys.

I will say tho that there are a few things I would like to see :-

  • an Unstuck option in the menu (yes it happens more often then I’d like.
  • more weapons and weapon variety, I love collecting new weapons and finding new things to try but 1 thing that annoys me is the lack of imagination as the only difference between grey, blue, purple and yellow seems to be a little more damage each time and that’s it and then once you have found that gun there is no point picking up another as it will be identical.
  • pistol seems underwhelming so much so that I don’t even bother picking ammo up for it. I was even lucky enough to find the experimental k17 and even that is basic and crap - it’s looks poor and the perk isn’t great compared to the rocket launcher of the shotgun (experimental smg is really bad because the with perk it should have a lot more ammo).
  • game lacks excitement once you’ve seen and beaten all types of bots so maybe some new fresh scary as hell bots are needed.

Apart from this very small list I’m loving the game, it is a little hard in solo mode if facing more than 2 bots but hey ho I’ll get through it.
Haven’t done the dlc yet as I haven’t actually finished the main game, which is no bad thing as I hate HATE short games with little to do in them (new Star Wars game springs to mind).

Keep up the good work guys please please bring new exciting bots and weapons into the game and you will keep me very happy and playing every day. (Seriously haven’t put it down since Monday when I bought it).

Welcome to the forums! I’ll put this thread in Feedback/Feature Requests, it fits in better there

For getting unstuck you can either fast travel (to a safe house) or use a field radio (in case you already came across one). Luckily, you are not getting stuck indefinitely that much. Often you can wiggle yourself free.

And yes, the robots can get overwhelming until you have found your strategy.

Spoiler

Some fight very careful from a distance, others get stamina and running speed skills very early and that helps a lot.

For the excitement part… well, this is not primarily a combat game. I know what you mean, though.

Thanks buddy.
As for the getting stuck thing it’s happened 4 or 5 times already (Stuck in containers and/or inside the boot lid of a car!!) and at least twice it’s been when I’ve gone a fair distance From the nearest discovered safe house and it’s been a pain in the backside to have to fast travel so far away lol

I understand what you mean about it not being a combat game but still something exciting, something that makes you go “wow” or “holy crap” needs to be here and not just 1 thing but many. It’s not really a combat game but it’s not really a tale of survival, or a story rich game as well let’s face it there isn’t much “story” involved in the game as it’s just you on your own not speaking to anybody, not finding anybody, no cutscenes, very little lore or interaction with anything just press the odd light switch here and there, listen to a recording every now and then, kill lots of bots and steal from everyone, not survival as you don’t eat, drink or sleep - so what it is?

Don’t get me wrong I am enjoying it and will keep playing as I’ve only got to Sävered so far but the impatient of something happening is starting to creep in, I’m already running through villages to see if a side mission pops up rather than sneak in and search every house and barn and all the bunkers are the same go in turn in the lights find war room grab weapons if different colour to already owned ones and leave.

Geez this is sounding like a moan but it’s not supposed to be I’m just trying to understand the devs aim for this game and where it’s going. I’ve seen too many unique fun sounding games lose all appeal after only a few hours of playing once that unique thing get old (anthem — flying Ironman game AWESOME 3 hours later it was just boring and dry).

Simply crouch to get outta there.

I know, that really sucks. Take a field radio with you, they are plenty available. You get them from radio beacons, e.g., but also find them on human bodies or as quest rewards in certain locations.

I am not saying this is no problem at all. It really is

That is an interesting question! I mean… Well, if the game lacks something for you, answering this question might not help. On the other hand, many people are not really asking this question, myself included. Maybe that helps a little?

Although I call it an ‘exploration shooter’. You heard it here first!

And yes, this game is maybe less about things happening than discovering background story. Although this changes a little with the first DLC.

I can understand where you are coming from. I can tell you that it get’s more exciting when you start piecing the puzzle together of what happened, when you see the story develop. Some of us find this extremely fascinating and motivating. I can also tell you that it is easy to overlook or not appreciate little things, tidbits of information, and that it is more fun in a group to discover and discuss these things. E.g. while playing with friends. Or hanging out in the forums, which was how I did it.

Welcome, @Stew83
How nice it would be to be able to forget and rediscover GZ. This game has a very unique feeling in the beginning. For me it gradually faded as the game progressed, so enjoy it while you can.
First, you can really feel the 80’s vibe, both in your clothing, the environment, the music and all the little details you can find.
Second, you feel really overwhelmed by the enemy. This is probably due to the lack of scaling. The Archipelago region gradually builds up the enemy threat, and when you enter the Farmlands region, the game throws everything at you. I loved the fact that I couldn’t just go in guns blazing, and I actually had to escape just as many fights as I won. I remember the panic when 5 hunters ambushed you from the woods, or the excitement of trying to avoid them. Hearing the distant stomps of a tank was terrifying. The first tank I was able to take down, I fought for 30 minutes and emptied all my supplies, and I loved it!
I played GZ from release, and I’m aware that some things may have changed since then, but I hope the initial experience of starting out in this world is still the same.
Where I’m getting at is, after 50-100 hours or so in-game, you are the tank. There’s really no fight you can’t win anymore. For me, it is now “just” an action game. I barely notice the 80’s vibe anymore. Machines are in no way terrifying. Supplies are abundant. “Guns blazing” actually works now!
Don’t get me wrong, I still love the game just as much. It is a really fun shooter. The semi-realistic feeling of the guns alone, are enough for me to enjoy GZ for hours. (I’m currently playing The Outer Worlds, and the weapons there feel like plastic toys. Almost bad enough to ruin the game.)
Anyway, I just want to say: Enjoy the first hours of GZ, you only get them once!

When I went from Archipelago to South Coast and encountered my first 4-pack of FNIX hunters I was puzzled on how to ever be able to beat the game. I just died. And died. And died and died and died. And then I died again!

This is one of the truest messages you can give a new player. And I know there is no increment to true.

Unfortunately, you can only appreciate this in hindsight.
