Our first 40 hours. Issues and bugs

Me and my girlfriend really like the game, it’s super challenging and co-operative play really makes a difference. We like that we can’t just steam roll through everything and take on everything at once, and often have to run away or hide to come back to tougher enemies later. It makes it really exciting, that there’s real challenge and risk (even if it’s just in the form of used ammo and time running back from respawn), not a lot of games are consistently challenging anymore. We also like that better gear doesn’t seem so significant of an upgrade as to completely negate the challenge (please keep it that way, btw).

That being said, we’ve had some pretty unfortunate issues. Yeah there’s some occasional glitches here and there, like getting stuck on things, but like any game, we can forgive all that. However, there are some pretty significant issues we’ve repeatedly faced since we started playing that have been much too common to the point of almost game breaking. So our significant issues, in no particular order:

  1. I made a new character to play with my gf, and it started off with the quest progress and location unlocks as my previous character. I know it’s been said before, but it’s still a huge issue and it really blows. Apparently the only way to start a fresh experience is to delete all your previous characters. Some have said this is intentional, but I really don’t see why, as you can already drop in/out of multiplayer games with different characters/builds regardless. Also, many weapons (including the first pistol you get) didn’t respawn for my second character, after 2 hours without a weapon, I ended up having to transfer some weapons from my other character. If I didn’t do that, I wouldn’t have gotten any weapons until almost 10 hours later, when finally we found a second pistol. All this is a pretty big oversight for a game with a focus on co-op.

Each character should have separate quest and location progress, and loot spawns, or at least the option for it, or to even reset all quests. And especially, there should never be a case where a new character can’t easily acquire a starter weapon, the games literally unplayable without. It’s a huge hit to replayability and multiplayer, and multiple characters, as multiplayer and multiple character can mess with your solo and other character progress.

  1. Occasionally enemies, usually the bigger (and more rewarding) ones, won’t have loot for the host player, which in our case is unfortunately my gf (as we want our co-op progress to be on her save, not mine). Sometimes enemy corpses won’t even be there for her, they just disappear, fall through the ground, or literally fly away into the sky. This sometimes happens to me too, but not nearly as often. It’s really frustrating, as it can be a real turn off for someone just getting into gaming.

  2. Most of the time I am unable to revive her. She’s usually able to revive me, but not always. I’m almost never able to revive her. Again, super frustrating for someone new to gaming. It seems totally random. We’ll start playing and go an hours without getting downed, and when we finally do, I still can’t revive her for whatever reason. Occasionally, it’ll randomly work. If it’s supposed to be limited in some way, that’s fine, but there’s no pattern or indication of wtf is going on here. If it really is supposed to be random and she’s just super unlucky in this game, at least say that it’s random somewhere, cuz it really feels like it’s just been buggy as hell.

  3. I deployed one of those radio relay beacons, that portable respawn thing, and it didn’t work. She died a couple minutes after, and it didn’t show as a respawn point on her map. We hadn’t even used it yet, neither as a respawn or fast travel. It just went to waste.

  4. No way to redo quests, or even do them for the first time with new characters. Again this ties back to our first issue, but in addition to just an unnecessary reduction of replayability, new characters are disadvantaged when levelling, as they don’t get the benefits of quest XP, also making that “+bonus XP from missions” skill completely useless on new characters. Especially counter-intuitive considering your first character you’re still learning the game and getting a grasp on the different skills. When you’re confident in making a new character for a new, better informed, build, we’re punished with slower and more boring levelling as there are no quests left. If anything, THAT’S when you’d want faster XP.

  5. This hasn’t happened too often, but sometimes one of us will have an enemy on screen, but it won’t be there for the other player. One of us can kill it, the other can’t do shit except maybe lay explosive for it. Luckily we live together so I can just turn around and see on her screen the inconsistency of these ghost machines, and we just walk away. But I can imagine the confusion this would cause for friends playing online. “There’s a fnix tank right there” “wtf where?” “right infront of you!!” “i dont see shit bro stop shooting at me.” Player one dies Player 2 explodes for no reason from a nearby car

  6. Sometimes when picking up weapons, it’ll auto-equip ammo to them. And then when stashing those weapons, it’ll stash that auto-equipped ammo with it, removing it from your active weapon.

  7. Occasionally there’ll be no reticle for a nearby enemy, and then one will instantly full aggro out of nowhere. This usually happens in combat, which isn’t a big deal, and is kind of a nice challenge actually, but occasionally this happens completely out of combat, which is a bit frustrating cuz we don’t expect it.

  8. No way to respec. Not too big of a deal, but considering how slow levelling is, there oughtta be a way to respec skill points either at a limited rate or at the cost of a resource.

  9. I have no problem with the weight-based inventory, but when I over-capped to the point of immobility for the first time, I had no idea what was going on and why I couldn’t move. Thought it was a bug and relogged. Could really use a more noticable indication when that happens.

  10. Sometimes when I’m crouching, I try to sprint, and it just doesn’t work. I have to uncrouch first.

  11. If I switch from one weapon to another, then back to the first, it just stays on the second weapon. I have to wait a second to switch back. Can really get in the way in heated situations.

Might’ve forgotten a few, but I think that covers all the big ones.

Most of those issues were already mentioned, but:

#4 - You can’t respawn at a radio. YOu’ll have to do it at a safehouse first, and afterwards fasttravel to that radio.

#11 - If you’re doing that while in a bush, or under a tree then you won’t be able to run - reported many times.

It’s good feedback, so I’m gonna move the topic to Feedback/Feature Requests instead
If you’ve encountered any bugs, please make proper Bug Reports out of them in the subforum of the same name, provided they’ve not already been reported.

Some clarifications:

  1. The reason for your chars sharing the same world (including mission progress) is explained by the dev here, at 00:10:10,
    link: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/437997329?filter=archives&sort=time

  2. Disappearing machines happens when the person who destroyed the machine fast travels away from the battle scene.
Machines flying to the machine heaven :innocent: is known bug.

  3. To revive another person, you must have adrenaline shot in your inventory. If you don’t have one, you can’t revive yourself or anybody else.
Though, i’ve seen a bug where when even having a-shots, there is no interactable action to be performed on downed buddy. What i’ve heard, this is now fixed but i haven’t tested it out lately.

  5. Read 1st point.

  6. Sync issue. Have seen it myself few times. Could be tied to your ping or ping of others.

  7. Introduced in March Update, alongside new inventory. Most likely made to help out new players who have the ammo and when picking up a weapon that fits ammo carried, rather than having player to figure out themselves which ammo goes to which weapon.

  8. Have seen it myself and usually happens when you escape the combat but wander back to the machine aggro range. Rather than machine giving you early warning of it being near you, it attacks you right away.

  9. Asked a lot in the forums already.

  10. There is indication for that over your health bar, where the stamina bar is.
If you are getting a bit over capacity then stamina bar is replaced with “Sprinting disabled” message, alongside scales icon, indicating you have too much weight on you. Add more stuff and message changes to “Running disabled”. Add even more and it eventually changes to “Movement disabled” message.

  11. Well, that makes sense. You can’t sprint while crouched. Need to get up before sprinting. Though, there is a skill that increases crouch movement speed.

  12. Here i wonder, why do you need to switch to a 2nd weapon for a split second and then back? Are you trying to exploit the reloading animation to shorten the reload time?
