PC Game Pass - GZ Kills Windows OS after quitting game (requires hard power off to fix)

Steps To Reproduce: Play the game, then quit as normal (causes failure every time)

Host or Client: Single player

Players in your game: No other players

Specifications: Alienware Aurora R7 - i7-8700K 3.70GHz 12xCPU, 32GB RAM, 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD, 500GB SATA SSD, 2TB HDD. External 5TB, 3TB, 1.5TB USB drives. Nvidia GTX 1080 (GeForce Game Ready Driver v512.59), Native Instruments KA2 USB Audio Interface, Razer BlackWidow Elite Gaming Keyboard, Razer DeathAdder Mouse, Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 22598)

This is the weirdest and most serious system crash I’ve ever seen on a PC.

After quitting the game everything appears normal, and already running apps continue to work but trying to launch a new app, restart the computer via the menu, or get into task manager all fails and the PC no longer functions properly. Only way to recover is by performing a hard reset by holding the computer’s power button down to power it off, and then power it back on.

I’m new to the game btw and I hate that my first post is negative, so I’ll also say that I absolutely love the game and it’s amazing and it’s the best open world gaming I’ve experienced, the level of detail and feeling of immersion is incredible so thanks for that.

Is there any debugging / logging I can look at and submit?

Generation Zero isn’t supported on Windows 11. That’s probably what’s causing the issue.

Interesting, thanks.

It says Windows 10 or higher in my Game Pass app.

You could read that as; windows 10 version xx and higher version xxx, but still windows 10.

That’s interesting that you mention it. I went by the system requirements on Steam which just states either Win 7 as minimum requirement, or Win 10 as recommended. Now I’m curious if there’s been a hickup somewhere.

funny I’ve been playing the game under Win 11 Pro with Steam for a good 3-4 months, but it has never happened to me that my computer no longer governed after exiting.
Are all your drivers new, often it’s because two drivers are interfering with each other, I’ve had graphics crashes under Windows 7. Because I had the sound set to 5.1 in Win and in a game on headphones, my Itler didn’t understand at the time how graphics and sound can interfere with each other.

All drivers are up to date, so maybe it’s the Windows 11 (22598.200 build) I’m on that’s the problem. I wipe my PC and do a fresh install every 2-3 months and I’ll be doing it again soon so maybe that will fix it.

I’ve now been experiencing this issue as well… Mind you its on Win10, not 11. Have tried rolling back gpu drivers, no luck, reupdated drivers, no luck. Verified game files as well as full reinstall with no luck.
I also noticed upon reboot, my Logitech BRIO Webcam also doesn’t work until I unplug/plug it back in.
