Hello! I’m new to this forum as of today and id like to ask a question, which you probably know by the title of this topic. Sorry if this has been asked hundreds of times before, but are there any Plans, even if these plans stretch years into the future, to add official modding support to the game? As in, an official mod dev kit such like the one ark has? I’d love to see new machines, weapons, items and locations added by some of the more ambitious people in the generation zero community. I even have a few ideas of my own that I can throw into some other topic some other time. Thanks for reading!
There is no plan for such thing, and in fact having a mod makes you susceptible to have major bugs or corrupt save games after an update.
Its something that happened to some people who had some mods.
Better to just leave as it is.
PS: I use mods in many other games, i´m not against using them.
although that is true, I’ve seen plenty of games with Official, developer approved mod support that is updated with the game, which doesn’t corrupt save games or have major bugs after an update. some mods may need to patch out a few smaller bugs and update the mod to the newest version, but usually most, if not all actively developed mods are updated within a week, maybe within a month for larger mods. either way, I believe that official mod support could be a possibility if the Systemic Reaction wanted to add mod support. this is just my opinion though ofc.
I did not give an opinion, i´m just talking about this game and not others.
Some players that used mods with Generation Zero suffered gamebreaking bugs and did get corrupted save games.
There is no official mod support and for the moment Systemic Reaction haven´t really talked about it, for the moment they do not want any kind of mod support, the game is already 3 years old, so dont get your hopes up.
oh i see, but that was unofficial mods wasn’t it?
Yes of course, but there wont be any official mods soon lol, so better just forget about it.
BTW, its against the rules of the Forum to go further about this subject (mods or any kind of software modification).
I Suggest you just make a simple request about official mod support from the devs and leave it there.
As far as I know there are no plans of it as of yet. The Apex Engine is very finnicky when it comes to modifying files, as we’ve seen so far with various people posting issues in #bug-reports.
There’s been some unofficial modding (which we won’t discuss in detail here on the forums) so far but since using them violates the current EULA doing so voids you of any support if it messes up your game.
I’m a big advocate for mods in games, but if the developers say no then there is usually a good reason for that. Until that changes, I very much doubt we’ll see it officially supported.
