There aren’t any. I’m now at the mission where I have to defend the hotel.
I failed once because I left the area.
Instead of the game resetting, there is still a horde of enemies outside and my mines and ammo are still gone.
What is this ?
I normally really like Generation Zero and wanted to give the devs a chance, but this is just stupid mission design. If that’s the standard for things to come, I’m out.
At least respawn the mine stockpile next to the statue and remove the enemies from the failed mission.
But no, what happens instead is you can potentially waste all your supplies, while a massive horde starts building in front of the hotel.
It seems like they wanted to test out concepts like failable defense missions, without adjusting any existing systems that simply don’t work with the new stuff.
It is a first for that kind of mission, that’s for sure. And I do agree that it could use some polish, there’s been quite a bit of input regarding it, and a few issues as well, so here’s hoping it gets streamlined a bit in the future.
Hey.
First of all, I’m sorry for being a bit ranty.
How I think it should be solved:
Once you talk to Anita, your inventory is saved and a new instance for the mission loads.
Should you fail the mission, the screens cuts to black, maybe some desperate calls over the radio, and you respawn in front of Anita and your inventory gets reset to a pre-mission state.
Things like the mine stockpile are exclusive to the defense-instance.
It would also improve immersion, because right now, in-universe, something like this happens:
A hotel gets destroyed by robots, after which it is magically fixed and new robots attack.
It’s not a bad idea, actually. I have no idea what it takes to implement instanced events to the game, but the devs have accomplished some pretty neat features so far so, why not?
I’ll move this topic to Feedback/Feature Requests, feels like it belongs better there
So I failed this mission the fourth time. Three times the building got destroyed but the fourth I decided to pile up adrenaline shots and used a ton of grenades but I failed due to leaving the mission area. I was right in front of the hotel maybe 40 to 50m away. I was well in the outside area of the hotel.
I enjoy this game a lot but this mission annoyes the crap out of it. I play single player and want to finish this mission in single player also. I find it frustrating that after a fail I have to restock for hours of gameplay to try it again. In my opinion this mission doesn’t fit GZ very well and I hope it will be the only one of this type. I completed all missions but this one and hope the fifth try will finally succeed and I will not trigger another limitation.
I would like to provide my feedback too. I haven’t dared to start this mission … for over a month now. I’ve assembled 50 mines, 30 high explosive granades, hand granades beyond count, stockpiled health packs and adrenaline. But I don’t want to start and fail for exactly the same reasons that @knobitobi states. If I fail this mission twice I will leave the game forever. If there is one thing I won’t accept in a game, it is a gatekeeper mission that is - and remains - above my player skills. I have stopped playing other games because of that. For me games shall be fun, not frustrating.
So I probably won’t start this mission before I’ve reached the point where I’m ready to leave the game
I knew I could rely on you, @0L0 Unfortunately I’m on Xbox But seriously that is my plan. If I don’t succeed myself, I will ask for help in co-op. I don’t expect that I can manage the situation alone hiding behind a window on the second floor with my rifle …
No, no. There is a good spot on balcony of room 305 (if I remember correctly), but only for some other player providing support. Most of the fun is on the ground
@0L0 first try sounds pretty impressive. At my second try I was extremely close only the last wave caught me on the wrong foot.
The interesting thing is that every other mission is no problem at all but the hotel defence mission is suddenly extremely hard. I guess it has to match ones play style. I guess I cannot act with hectic situations very well
I still want to finish every mission in single player. I guess I have to DSP the shit out of it
Again I second your arguments, @knobitobi. I’m not too happy with too much stress, especially because aiming is not as easy using a game controller as using a wired mouse on a PC. The reason that I have been reluctant jumping into co-op for this mission is, that GZ has run pretty much flawlessly for me in single player, and we’ve had a few complaints about stability for players that combined single player with co-op. It seems that this isn’t quite as big a problem anymore
Some games seem to make these gatekeeper missions easier for each time you fail them. “That is for sissies” some might say, but I play for fun, not to prove anything.
Haven’t tried this mission in single player because there is an overwhelming amount of enemies but that’s not to say it can’t be done alone, I just like playing with my buds. That being said, we got our asses handed to us the first 5 times we tried before we discovered our strategy was all wrong. We were trying to defend the hotel from the inside and that just never worked for us. Hotel would get wiped out before the last wave. We defended from the outside drawing the bots away from the hotel and won the day . The hotel didn’t get a scratch. I couldn’t believe it.
Stock up on flares and fireworks to draw them away. Seemed to work for us. Good luck and see you guys in the trenches.
