Is there any advantage in aiming down sights when using a shotgun?
I have made some tests shooting at a wall with the pump shotgun, from the hip and aiming down sights, I even tried a ACOG sight. I found no difference in pellet spread or recoil.

well this game has in-depth simulated bullet ballistics. So as in real life aiming down sights will not reduce the pellet spread. As for recoil aiming down sights would help as you would put the stock against you. I think using a shotgun choke is the only way to reduce spread. And sitting still and maybe crouching helps.
Spread is still the same regardless, unless you add a choke mod, or use slugs. The latter works fantastic when aiming down sights, or using a scope since they effectively turns your shotgun into a close-range sniper rifle.
Aiming doesn’t affect the width of the spread, but it affects where the center of the swarm of pellets hit. When you hip-fire, that center could end up anywhere inside the white, circular reticle. If it ends up on the edge of the circle, only half of your birdshot/buckshot hit where you aim. Hope that’s an understandable explanation.
I use the pump shotgun and exp. Kpist for close ranges, and I mostly just hip-fire them. Hunters fall like flies.
Thank you for answering my question, NJR87! Aiming down sights should have a benefit but I could not find one. Nonetheless, I think the shotgun is best used with the “choke” attachment and almost always hip-firing.
What is “exp” ?
“exp. Kpist” = Experimental Kpist (aka 6* Kpist).
There is a benefit. When you fire while aiming down the sights, the swarm of pellets will be centered around the exact point of the iron sight or reticle. It’s just that I use it at so short ranges that it doesn’t really matter. I sometimes quick-aim it, like tapping both the fire and the aim button simoultaneously. It gives some extra accuracy to hip-firing.
Especially good ASD with Exp.12G, 5* Choke, with birdshot
I don’t like the experimental shotgun. I stick to the 5*.
Now I know the benefit, that is why I thanked you.
Sorry, I sometimes have a habit of over explaining things. You’re welcome.
It takes some getting used to that’s for sure
