Slowdown after updating GPU drivers

Recently updated Nvidia GPU Drivers to the latest Game-Ready driver (445.87) and have since been experiencing dramatic slowdowns in-game.

It’ll run fine at first, but after a minute or two will slow to a crawl, basically running in slow motion. I’ll note that the game ran perfectly fine before upgrading (was running an old driver from sometime mid-last year) and this is a new occurence. Fiddling with graphics settings both in game and in the Nvidia control panel had no effect.

GPU is a GeForce GTX 980 for reference.

Now, there is a fix for this problem floating around but it seems to be only for laptops with integrated graphics cards, and I’m on a desktop so no cigar there.

Platform: PC

Description: Game slows down to crawl, not just in terms of FPS but also plays slower, like in slow motion almost.

Steps To Reproduce: Run game with Nvidia game-ready driver 445.87

Images / Videos: N/A

Host or Client: Client

Players in your game: Worse in Multiplayer, but happens in singleplayer also

Specifications: Intel i7 2600k, 8GB Ram, Geforce GTX 980

I have been playing on that driver version since it released, on a gtx1080, without issues on my system while only playing solo.

Have you tried to do the “clean” install using the Nvidia option or using DDU for a full cleanout of old drivers?

I’m also using those drivers for some time now, and had absolutely no problems.

Since each system is different, same driver version can create issues for one person while none for another.

Wipe the current driver version with DDU and roll back to previous version used. If everything goes back to normal than this version doesn’t want to work well with your setup.

In my time, i’ve had Nvidia driver versions that just didn’t want to work right. I rolled the version back and waited until new version came out, completely skipping the wonky version.

Thanks, but as it turns out this might actually be hardware related.
