Thanks for the support guys.
Yesterday I wanted to give up.
Because even a new world from scratch and profile (no mods) crashed, I first wanted to eliminate all bots (XX) ehhh… all issues on the comp.
But everything - according to some nice ASUS tools and benchmark (XTU:2499 Marks) - functions correct - and I don’t overclock.
Don’t have an extra virusscanner nowadays - only what Windows (10) offers me.
Did some ransomware restrictions (folders/processes), that’s all. But no changes at the time of the problem. Cabled internet connection.
I’ll do as Gysbert suggested.
Have to find the savegames folder and the deïnstall procedure.
I’ll Be Back.
EDIT: for the record:
did a thorough deep uninstall
removed all left over register keys
restarted the computer
installed GZ via Steam
EDIT01:
Think I tackled the issue: not enough space on the HD! (intentionally nót C:\ )
When reinstalling the game, I got this message.
So created another destination with 3,5 TB space.
Install process is active now…
EDIT02:
Unfortunately - after all these actions - the Game still is very sloowwwwww and even CTRL ALT DEL is needed to stop the processes.
So for now - still no solution.
Lol, yeah I remember all sorts of little tweeks and modifications we had to do to keep our computers up and running good in the 90’s and 2000’s. Zip ties and back up copies of drivers are a nerds best friend
Well there are two courses of action can take from here.
Wait for the devs to figure out the issue and fix it
Purchase a sledge hammer to use to threaten the computer and to potentially use as the murder weapon for skynet if it ever makes an appearance on your machine
The day before yesterday I installed Steam and GZ on my HP laptop. Starting up ran smooth - also the menu background animation. The ‘cassette tape’ wheels were turning as the should.
Just to experiment - don’t wanna play on a laptop
Harold, maybe you need to replace the thermal paste on your processor. If it’s not cooling too good it will slow down the PC. Especially if have a older desktop. Have you considered that?
Hi Gysbert, didn’t consider that yet, but suggestions are always more than welcome!
My system is about 5 years old. Had it assembled by a ICTfriend of mine (also videographer) and has watercooling. So for video editing - rather heavy system at that time.
But… I tackeled the problem - finally. Not the performance of the computer, not the network speed, but … the saved games. Yes, Guilty
Possible diagnoses is, that with the update of feb. 21th, it resulted in a problem. Worked perfect before.
But now, with increased experience, maybe I can find my way in the game - not too many encounters with robots etc. and still playing the story/game.
Learned a lót by reading topics on this forum. Made me understand much more of the game and how things work!
So thank you all, gratefull and I’m prepared to experience a lot of deaths in the next months to come.
Yes, that also how I learned.
And remember to make backup of your game-save folder on a regular basis. It might save you headaches someday. I’m currently on save 233. I keep numbering them upward even though I do delete the older ones once in a while.
And don’t forget to also play other games. Btw, if you want to friends on Steam just look up Gysbert. Can never have too many friends, they say, but I’m not sure if that is actually true.
I now played 235,5 hours. Don’t know if I want to start all over again as for the game. 57 of 72.
Also want to figure out those maps: Cache & Saves/Settings.
How to interpretate these files. Maybe I can still use some - maybe there’s a topic about this?
Edit: my question was about backing up files, not to edit them.
But for now I find it hard to start all over again, so I won’t be playing this game anymore. Lost everything that I worked for. Maybe just some walking around in the terrain, but not the story and missions etc.
Maybe you will find it harder to actually stop. If you want to stop, then you need to really move on. Lingering will only make it harder. Most often it is the community that makes moving-on hard, because you might miss the interaction. But there were many games I tried that I did not like, and stopped with them easily. There is no crying over spilled milk, as the old saying goes, and there are sóooo many cool games you can try, to keep feeling a young God.
Maybe you’ll think different as time goes by… and return.
