So I finally got gen. zero

It’s been two weeks since I got this on ps4. It was on my radar for months but I held of mainly till the bugs were fixed. So as I was saying been playing it everyday and what a fantastic gameplay loop.

It’s a nice little trickle of upgrades and tools as you move through the world. Just the other night I took out my first three rivals and having only 2* weapons and weak ammo it exhausted pretty much all my ammo and health kits leaving me with just my trusty pistol. It’s time like these in gen zero I feel like ughhhh but hitting a few locations scavenging and quick as that you back in the game.

I hit a military bunker just last night and got that big ass revolver pistol and some new shiny 3* stuff also another mission from a seaside town, so who knows what awaits but I do know this “it’ll be fun”.

Hey man, welcome to the fight against the machines!
This is the type of game that only gets better the more you play it, and from the sounds of it you’re on a great track taking down your first set of rivals (solo i presume?) hope they dropped some sweet clothes or weapons for you to use!
That revolver is an absolute unit of a hand cannon, we even just recently had some challenges in the community based on it showing how great of a side arm it truly is! If you need lots of ammo for it, keep it as your main sidearm and hunt down some proto hunters on the first area, you’ll have more than enough to keep that revolver in great shape throughout your playthrough
Trust me, after playing for almost a year now, the fun never ends with gz! Keep your eyes on this space and on youtube for updates and information on them, that’s one of the best things about this game, it’s never ending evolution!
Cheers dude and welcome to the community

Thx m8, yeah solo at the moment. Just getting used to the tactics starting to come across the camo machines as I was trying to get into that bunker I got into a fight with 4 hunters so I sprinted into a nearby house were they tried to gas me out (was eating the health packs like jelly beans lol)

So the next 20 mins consisted of me trying to take them out with the shotty and fire works while avoiding their return fire and gas attacks. I’m sure as I get better gear things like this will get easier but when you lvl 10 it’s pretty intense but satisfying to come out on top.

Man we’re lucky we eat those health packs in a single bite! Any longer and i’d have been a goner in many situations. Those military machines can do a serious number on you in packs, especially hunters those mortars are a pain to deal with. But eventually as you get better gear and better skills they become a absolute cake walk as you were saying, though i’d say cherish the hard times dude, some people miss them when they get OP and even just restart their saves to get back to the tense fights.
Which bunker? Hope the bunker keys RNG is good to you man!

In the beginning GZ can be hard, especially when playing solo. It’s all the unknown, learning machine tactics and discovering yourself what makes the beginning fun and enjoyable.

My guess: Minken Command Bunker.
Vesslan Command Bunker doesn’t have hunter patrols around it. And Sorken Command Bunker is nowhere near seaside for OP to be in a seaside town.

Minken is right, just finished playing there. Ended up heading north to that church and what started a quick clear the hunters out descended onto the church becoming the bloody alamo with numerous hunters and 5 bloody big harvesters outside. In the end hunters were dead but I legged it outta there not enough ammo or explosives to take out that many harvesters.

Seems in this part of the map every minute or so you come across one of them big ass machines.

Game regions have different order compared to the main story and difficulty in them.

Click here to see the list. No big spoilers.

Main mission wise: Archipelago -> South Coast -> Farmlands -> Forest -> Mountains -> Marshlands -> North Coast -> Himfjäll.

Difficulty wise: Archipelago -> Farmlands -> Forest -> South Coast -> Marshlands -> Mountains* -> North Coast* -> Himfjäll.

To me, Mountains region is far harder than North Coast region due to the geography of the region.

Huh, I would’ve said the exact opposite re: Mountain vs. North Coast… yes the plains make it easier to kill things with sniper rifles but there’s a lot fewer machines in rough topography areas like the mountains which makes things easier (other than roving hunter packs - but they’re everywhere).

I found the sheer number of machines (especially tanks) in North Coast is quite intimidating. Sometimes it seemed like whole regiments would engage me. Mountain mainly has harvesters going through the forests, plus tons and tons of bunkers. I do think North Coast is the fastest region to complete in the game though, both mission and collectible wise. But that’s partly because you tend to be quite powerful by the time you get there.

To me, North Coast is far easier than Mountains since in North Coast, you can see in well advance of any machine roaming around. With early spotting, the very least you have is time to figure out what to do next or if even to engage them. Sure, North Coast doesn’t offer much cover wise but early warning gives you better chances (just like in Farmlands).

Mountains, in the other hand, are heavily forested with great elevation changes and in there, you won’t see the machines coming from long distance. More often than not, you’ll wander into Seeker’s or Hunter’s aggro range without ever seeing them. And the 1st sign you get that they are there, are Hunter’s scream or Seeker’s horn. But at that time, it’s already too late and they are coming after you.
Also, there are hotspots in Mountains that are crawling with machines and if you’re not careful enough, you’ll find yourself in a battle where you are badly outnumbered and outmatched as well.
For example, i dropped a heavy comm array lure in one of those hotspots and few seconds later, machine armada surrounded me, consisting of: 4x military runners, 3x military seekers and 15x military hunters. Nowhere on the map i’ve had that many hunters in one spot, only in Mountains.
