Suggestion - Base assault improvement

Background:

After a hiatus from the game I am back playing again.

During my hiatus a lot more of the control points have been added and while exploring I found obvious places where there will likely be added.

I have never really liked this feature of the game but I decided to really give it a try and now after assaulting all the available control points I still cant say this is something I think the devs should lean in to so hard, at least not if they dont improve the level system of the bases.

Now, sadly, I just cheese the mechanic. As soon as a control point is taken over I assault it so it never levels up. All control points that are far from a safe house I claim, this goes for any control point that lacks good cover around it also.

As it is now the levels does not really add any real difficulty, having more walls and never ending spawns of doggos and hunters is more like artificial difficulty. Yes this makes the assault take longer and raises the consumption of ammo and med kits, but thats it.

Suggestions for improvement.

Turrets:
Instead of higher level just equal more walls and spawns it would make sense that the walls where equipped with more powerful turrets.
LVL 1 – Machine gun turrets.
LVL 2 – Machine gun turrets + Rocket turrets.
LVL 3 – Machine gun turrets + Rocket turrets + Sniper turrets.

Spawns:
Regarding the spawns I don’t really have a solid idea of how to improve but it would make sense if higher level bases are guarded by at least one tank and one harvester. The spawners should also be more easily identified from a distance, they could for example give of a column of light corresponding to what type of spawner it is when they spawn a new wave. This would make planning your assault more fun. Like you see a beam of blue light on the opposite side of the base that you are assaulting you would know where to focus the next step of your attack.

This is of course just my opinion, if you have other ideas I would love to hear them :slight_smile:

A tank spawn-place :star_struck:
For just one tank at a time.
It could look like a great garage and be a heavy target.
They would be the first fully functional explanation of where all the tanks come from.

Rocket and sniper turrets don’t seem to be good ideas. The machine guns really are enough. They cover short to medium range, are really fast and quite strong.
Sniper towers, if they work like the hunters, would be easy to dodge… Or too strong if they hit you. Rockets would just be more annoyance.
If they work like the runners, they’re too slow. If they work like the tanks/harvesters pods, they would be too heavy in my eyes.

A very good and easy idea to complement base assault without the need for creation of new assets that would require time and resources.

What Madchaser suggests is a good way to change the fnix bases and make them worth attacking, give a story as to why they are there and fits into the game itself better.

Right now, all they are is tossed in because a few players wanted the game to have base assault and no reasoning behind it.

With the machines spawning from the FNIX bases, instead of a warning and they show on the map, you have to track from which direction the machines are coming from. Destroy the base and the area is cleared of machines.

If you have machines coming at you from the north, then head towards till you find the base. With high level bases, after spawning APOC class machines comes the reaper.

When base first spawns, it is just a proto, then military, fnix and then apoc.

It’s really hard… English isn’t my language. And additionally, if the thoughts are growing it’s hard to stop. I don’t like superficial ideas. I like to think about every detail for a concluding overall package.
I’ll try to make more logical paragraphs in future, maybe where I hide details for the interested readers.

But there’s a risk that it isn’t as interesting, if you don’t read/don’t know about the details, so that you don’t go on reading… :thinking:

Sniper turret that works like hunter is the way to go IMO this would force you to stay on the move or prioritize these turrets, same goes for rocket turrets that would work like the one on harvesters but maybe with just half the salvo.

In general with turrets I think that it would make sense if FNIX would make turret version of the same weapons that are mounted on tanks and other machines.

I didnt mind that you used this topic, was actually exactly the flow of different ideas to improve base assault that I wanted to spark with this thread :slight_smile:
In your own topic I really liked your idea with the garages. Would make alot more sense and would give the player a better idea to prioritize targets.
