Suggestions For A Hardcore mode

These are based on the premise that there are about 100- 150 people in the resistance spread over the playing area- most of whom are scavengers and scouts whom the player never sees. These are also intended to be developer- friendly to increase the chance that a handful might see the light of day in some form (I don’t believe that eating, drinking, and sleeping will). If you want to dump on these ideas, have at it. I do love the game and would like to see a tougher difficulty of some kind. If bashing these ideas creates some others that might be acceptable, then great. If at all possible, eliminate duping in this mode to force the player to actually think to survive and gain experience and skill points.

  1. Eliminate fast travel.
  2. Eliminate all player bases (get your stuff out before you join the server). Make four available to build in the farmlands and three everywhere else that bases exist.
  3. Start all joining players at a central location- say, Mullvadsberget Tunnels. All players are veterans. Start them all at level 1 in this mode with whatever weapons or equipment that they already got in regular mode.
  4. Create bridges linking the playable islands- the more the better. Make some of them long. Make them patrolled by enemy machines, predominantly flying (players are trying to get by the machines, not loot them).
  5. Either make Hunters and Runners fire- while- moving capable like Tanks and Harvesters or reduce their delay time between halting and firing by half a second or a full second.
  6. Make all gun bursts by machines two seconds longer so as to kill anyone taking them on face- to- face.
  7. Create a new Hardcore DLC Pack with four new weapons, a new vehicle, and a new FNIX flying machine- the HK- 416, the HK- 417, the Thompson submachinegun, and a new vehicle- a moped with the flatbed in the rear mounting either an N144 chain gun or a M2 .50 cal. machine gun. Give the vehicle ammunition stowage of say, 2,000 rounds. This vehicle is inspired by the LRG- the Long Range Desert Group of guerrillas operating behind German lines in Africa during WW2- a sort of “Rat Patrol” in Sweden.
  8. Create small caches of ammunition and supplies at each game (not player) base which are “filled” by scavengers.
  9. Give the player 1 new skill point for every five or ten levels that he increases after playing. Penalize the player 500- 1000 experience points for every death. The player cannot drop below his current level with 0 experience points.
  10. Create two merchant trader stations- the bald- headed fat guy downstairs at the Bjorntunet Hotel on Himfjall (I’m a bald- headed fat guy myself, so no accusations of hazing please) and the two girls inside the castle walls at Hagaboda. Let the player trade weapons and equipment for credit to buy same. Also let the player spend his tokens which are currently collecting dust.
  11. Create new missions- some time- sensitive to encourage travel by vehicle. Like rescue the survivor, or save the pinned- down scavenger or scout.
  12. Almost forgot. Double all weapon weights. Make the M2 and N144 vehicle mounted weapons only. Add a 1-4 scope and full vision module potential to the AI76. Reduce the weight of the AG4 by 1 pound to 3 pounds.

Hey,

excuse me.
In my eyes most of what you suggest isn’t developer friendly and hardcore. It’s the opposite: a total conversion of the game. I guess eating, drinking and sleeping would be easier to be added. Eating and drinking could just work like consuming a health kit (while the health is constantly reduced slowly all the time) and sleeping could be an option to change the time of day and to restore stamina and maybe health. Stamina could also work like health… If consumed, you can just restore IT by consuming something (muesli bar, energy drink) or by sleeping.

But let’s start at the beginning:

You call it “hardcore mode”, but how should it work?
A new difficulty mode? I believe that No. 2,3,4,7,9,10,11,12 would be impossible for that, as the difficulty can be changed always.
Also this mode should be selected at the very beginning of the game without the option to change it.

So I would indeed call it “mode” as additional option when starting a new game. It would have to be a fifth world with a seperated pool of characters.

Should it more difficult or just different? To me it sounds more like the second as you’re adding so much to make the players stronger… And something without any sense for hardcore… Bridges.

I see your point regarding food. I’m not sure why you would think that the mode would or could be changed to anything else. The mode is supposed to be hardcore. With that in mind, 2,3,4,7,9,10,11, and 12 would be possible. Used when starting a new game would be fine. The idea behind bridges would be to encourage vehicle use and give the players options as to which way to go- while at the same time creating choke points where machines could intercept them. For example, after running a mission to the eastern end of the archipelago, the players may need to get to Himfjall for another. They could either take the road all the way around via Osterhorn to Lennart’s Marin, or they could take a bridge (and a calculated risk that it’s being patrolled) direct from Talludden to Tarnboda Skans. Long bridge, I know- but it IS a game, and there are already a host of unrealistic issues in the game that are accepted by all. Besides, these ideas are all subject to adjustment.
Cheers…

I won’t repeat myself about hardcore mode ideas here, so here’s a link that covers it instead. I am all for having a separate mode that players have to create a fresh world for. There’s a lot of interesting suggestions here, with many of them repeated in my post, so there’s definitely a demand for a more challenging experience. Since the devs will have the final say on what’s added or not, I say the more ideas the merrier. Bring 'em on!

Spot on. I’m a supporter of anything added to the game provided that it makes the game more challenging and consists of more than just a few new weapons.
