Sumery of broken things

Dear Devs,

first I really love the game, but I have to admit after playing 1 char to level 25 then I got bored and started another char, cause I wanted to try different skills and got this one up to level 18 now too. So I’ve completed everything and have seen most if not all places in the game aswell.

First the new starting area is nice and when you do your wednesday livestream, I think you guys should play the higher areas too, then you would notice how broken the game is.

Let me explain:

First the loot and ammo changes are bad, cause after 2 days some areas and containers still didnt respawn yet, so I guess you have to waste ingame time for the containers to respawn? Means I have to start the game and idle for hours now? Bad thing really. Is that intended?

Weapons and Weapons damage. I noticed that I often do more damage with a pistol than with a sniper rifle. It seems that the range is also used to calculate the damage. Meaning that you do more damage when you are closer to the target. Making the cal .50 rifle one of the worst weapons ingame. from 200 - 300 meters away it often takes 100+ bullets to take down a tank. Not speaking off those 20+ grenades. Most weapons are to weak. It takes as an example 200 bullets to take down a few t3 hunters and then they drop like 10 shotgun shells each… see whats wrong with it? Oh and I do have the skill to get more ammo from containers and machines.

Well you can say, you have to shot the hunter in the back, but how will you be able to manage that most of the time when playing solo? you cannot. Well you could trick him into a trap and that works yes, but tbh. hunters hunt in packs of 4-5 in the later game. Having 4-5 t3 hunters on you, your only option is to run or to try to kite them. I am still able to kill them thats not the problem, but do the math. You waste like 400-500 bullets on them. Before the patch that wasnt bad, you just restarted the game and picked up some more ammo, but now?

Tanks. Well they are even worse in solo game. You can kill them yes, but lets face it, you cheat the game to kill them. Some would say its smart play, I would say its exploiting the game mechanics. A t3 tank kills you from 400meters easy with his “close range autocanon”. Where you do like 1% of damage if at all with an armor pircing cal 50 round. See whats wrong? Also as soon as you attack him he keeps facing you all the time. If you go to close he will sometimes uses his rocket launcher which is an insta death, cause it only takes 1-2seconds for the missiles to reach you and you cannot outrun that and it drops your health from 100 down to 0. Waste adrenaline on it? no. so you respawn at the safe house and run back. So how do you kill them. Well let them kill each other. Attack 2 tanks and then kite them so one tank is behind the other one. If you do it right then the tank behind will destroy the tank in front of him. Or just play in a team. One guy draws aggro and the other one goes behind him and shots him from behind. That also works will all machines ingame. Having one of your teammates draw aggro and running and kiting around, so you can kill one after one. Smart play? I would say its exploiting the game.

Now about the airbase ammo bunker and the muddusken bunkers. The airbase has gas inside, making it dangerous to loot. I think you shoud remove the gas, but thats not whats really pissing me off right now. Its that after restarting the game you cannot enter those bunkers anymore. Both are a great source to get some needed ammo, and now you cannot reenter it? Honestly thats crap. I cannot redo those missions, so I wont be able to open those doors again. I opened them. so how come after closing the game those doors become closed again? I really hope thats a bug. Because if not then it ment that players will only see those bunkers once in their lifetime.

I would love to see you guys playing against a fnix tank solo next wednesday or against a pack of fnix hunters, cause those are the things we face all the time in the later game. Dont always show the staring area with those weak machines.

Thank you for the post @LtAnders. This is a very well stated summary of some important problems/changes currently in the game concerning the difficulty of AI, and usability of the different weapon types, and loot spawns. All the feedback is important for the devs to see. :slight_smile:

As I understand it, the loot respawn system was changed so that you’d need to stay on the move through different areas. It’s set to respawn in approx. 5 ingame hours. I don’t quite understand what you mean when you claim that pistols do more damage than rifles, I’m playing the game right now and tried this and my .270 rifle did superior damage compared to the 9mm pistol. Both were top tier weapons at the same ranges.

The .50 BMG rifle is not an anti tank weapon. But you can use it to disable a Tank’s weapons, and target weak points. I do agree that it still need it’s damage buffed though.

Explosives are currently very unbalanced and deal way too little damage. The devs have acknowledged this and it’s being worked on.

I think Hunters are fine. Prototype Hunters are very weak and can be killed with a hunting rifle. But beyond that they are supposed to be very tough and a challenge to take out. They do have weak points in the front, but I don’t recommend fighting Hunters in the open. Find cover and pick them off if you play solo.
I’ve had times where I fought 12 military hunters at a time. Sure it took a lot of bullets, but that happens sometimes.

Tanks are supposed to be an overwhelming enemy. While I agree it’s unfair with the current explosive weapons being what they are right now, it’s imperative that one works out a strategy when taking them on, especially the FNIX tanks. If you can fool the tanks to shooting eachother, that’s no exploit. That’s clever tactics :slight_smile:

The bunkers being locked when you spawn in them is also a known issue and it’s being addressed by the devs. And, I do agree that I’d love for the next stream to take place on the main island, fighting bigger and badder foes :wink:

I agree with the original poster the game mechanics now just make this game not playable as a solo person. The loot respawn time is so ridiculous that I actually have stopped playing the game because I am running out of ammo. The concept of staying on the move through areas is fine but explain to me how I am going to get the ammo to fight off hunters and tanks when it takes hundreds of rounds during 1 encounter. Before I could fast travel back and get ammo and health packs and continue my enjoyable fight with the robot enemies while exploring. Now I don’t want to get in combat because the ammo respawn time is ridiculous making it a time sink so I should just login and leave my character in a safe house till ammo respawns. Again this just makes the game not enjoyable and the OP is correct pistols do more damage then a 50 cal at close range due to the amount of rounds you can shoot before you have to reload. The heavy weapons in this game are so weak its not even worth holding on to the rocket launcher or 50 caliber. Anyway I am done till the game is fixed or changed there are plenty of other good games to play it’s just a shame that they made adjustments that broke the gameplay.

I totally agree with LtAnders and ghostjwm. I love the game concept and atmosphere and could overlook at least most of the bugs. But although it sounds crazy, it’s now patched to an unplayable state. Machines spawning in large numbers to previously cleared areas, ammo is gone, explosives patched to uselessness, skill advancement has slowed to a halt and my Minken bunker mission is still blocked. I don’t want to spend all night trying to kill a tank and a team of hunters with a slingshot. I want to enjoy myself, learn new skills and complete the game. More action! The fun is gone…for now :-/

I played for about 2 hours on 1.05 and it’s basically a different game - one that I no longer enjoy. I’ve decided to just wait for the next patch to see if things improve. It’s just not fun now.

It’s sad because while I was often very critical of the bugs, issues and (mostly) the priorities of what was addressed in the patches, I really did love this game at its core and its potential. Right now, I’m just not enjoying it and seeing no reason to play.

I agree. At the end of the day it’s a game, a computer program used to generate happiness by being fun. Right now it’s more of a frustration generator due to the lack of loot, the removal of ammo and health pack respawning (why?), and all the ticks and hunters everywhere.

The issue with this versus other tough and unforgiving games (Dark Souls, Salt and Sanctuary, etc) is the issue of being tough but fair. Your deaths can teach you how to adapt and overcome. In the current state of the game (ticks spawning in front of you indoors, unavoidably one-hit-kill melee attacks through walls, and no ammo/health readily available to quickly try again), it’s just tough but not fair. That’s a formula for frustration, not fun.

I hope that by next year it’s a little more polished and pleasurable to play.

The starter island is actually a really bug-free experience. It’s tougher now with the hunters and such, but I think the idea really is to avoid them rather than engage. But overall, the starter island experience is pretty polished.

Now, I wish the live stream would occur in the far more northern areas of the map vs starting at Yttervik all the time. They only got as far as Norra Saltholmen in live streams so far. All a pretty bug-free area for the most part.

Well as a fairly new starter jumping straight into the May update/1.06 I wouldn’t want to change too much with the difficulty. I know I obviously never experienced the previous versions but I’m enjoying the grind and realism as it is.

I’d avoid them if there were any other way to get field radios than to take on the hunters for the beacons I need to respawn since the great loot shortage of 1.05-06. I managed to get the radio and now am trapped in a house with no ammo, no adrenaline, 2 medkits and a stack of dud grenades that might as well have just been removed if they didn’t like the fact that explosives… I don’t know… Explode?
