The final update, and a sour taste left behind

I haven’t played GZ for a while, but suddenly recalled how much fun it was and reinstalled it on my PS. That’s when I learned about the final update, and that there’s not gonna be any further development for the game.

That’s fine, I thought, this game gave me so many hours of fun, I have no right to complain. That was, until I started playing and ran into a bunch of bugs, some of which I knew existed, some of which were new for me.

Long story short, the game’s borderline unplayable right now, so I can’t really give it the “final goodbye” I was hoping for. And, given how this was the last update, I suppose the bugs won’t be fixed either, hence the bad taste left behind.

(Am I being a tad dramatic? Probably. Still, honestly a bit disappointed)

No you are not being dramatic.
I really dont like the state they left the game in.
The companion disappears after a while most of the time.
They changed the base building when no one asked them.
And left numerous bugs to be fixed.
The game was better before that update.

A company with good games like them (Mad max, Just cause series and Rage 2) does this? I dont want to buy any game from them ever again if its like this (like i havent bought anything from ubisoft since they stole “my” The Crew.

Btw, what bugs you did not know about?

Sadly the experiences are spread over a great range.
I can’t remember when I saw a critical bug the last time. My performance is good and I don’t have any crashes. Even my longtime bug with the disappearing safehouses got fixed for me.

It’s just the bad taste of many changes they introduced with the last update and didn’t tune them much afterwards: the changes for base building/defenses and for the crafting. So high costs for many receipes, too low outcome.

At least the devs heard a bit on us and added some of the new ressources to the rivals loot pools with the final hotfix.

I can still enjoy playing GZ. It’s my favourite game if I want to play something but don’t want to spend too much time or brain or don’t know what to play.

The update killed the game. Co-op play was almost dead before the update, but chased away most players that had the game before the last update. If you didn’t want to do base building/defense or crafting you never had to, just collect everything by looting as the game first started out. And who forces the player base to use a last update add-on change to how you play a game? It sends out a big message that the producers don’t care they screwed their comsumer base and makes them wary of purchasing more of their games.

A new Doom-Thread after the real Doomsday. Thats new for me. (Elite Dangerous Player :P) Wonders still happens… (Waiting for a shadow drop trailer of GenZ 2.)

oh boy… i bought elite dangerous in 2018 or 2019 for the PS4, 2 years later or something they dropped the support for consoles, the worst/best part? I didnt even played it at all! lol

Exactly, its a big “FY” to anyone who bought the game and kept playing and bought most DLC from them.

As a company they lost all credibility to me and are now almost at the level of Ubisoft EA and activision.

The sad part about games ending support is that whatever bugs remain just become a permanent part of the experience. It’s frustrating when the last memory of a game isn’t the fun it once offered but the glitches that got in the way.

It’s a shame. I wish they would’ve left the game on a better note.

It’s still Avalanche Studios property, and they have other games on the same engine, so who knows.
Whomever decided that the last update to the game should completely overhaul game mechanics and inroduce new ones, knowing it would mess everything up… I hope they can live with themselves.

The problem is that while I dont have any real info, i could bet some money that the ones who made that decision have nothing to do with the original and medium (2021-2023)development of the Game and dont care.

Its a shame , they could have left the game as it was, it was honestly better.

It algo gives a bad reputation to the company.

I know there was a switcharoo with the teams after Covid.

The second team had a different vision for the game.

I hadn’t played it in a while (about half a year), so the bug that wiped out all the unlocked safe houses hit me completely unprepared. I’ve been slowly unlocking them since then, but it feels plain wrong having to do that.

Also, I had forgotten in the meantime how annoying and borderline game-breaking some of the bugs were I knew: Not being able to deploy items (companion, radio, ticks, etc) after some time playing without restarting. Or how stealth just stops existing in any map section where FNIX and Russian bots meet.

All of those are PS4/PS5 bugs, by the way. I get the feeling the console versions of the game got shafted even more than the PC one

These are all bugs I had for years, but obviously were fixed with the last update. Haven’t experienced them since then any more

The companion bug was introduced with the latest update.
They didnt even fix that.
Its incredible the lack of professionalism by them.

I never had a bug with my companion.

I know, many had issues with it, because they put it into their inventory and moved it to the plundra…and then tried to use it with a new character or so…

And recently I didn’t have something to repair my companion, so I had to go to it’s last position after I picked some repair kits…

But I never had a bug with it

Yeh but i and others have it.
And its very annoying.
It worked fine before the Last update now it doesnt.
The companion vanishes usually after 30 minutes of playing, its been said multiple times.
Lucky you .

I agree, i my self play on the earlier versions now a days to relive the old vibe of GZ, and also i get to enjoy a less downgraded version of GZ when speaking detail, sound design and AI.

If anything the old GZ is much better than what new GZ became imo. sure, new GZ has extra stuff however 50% of all the content is behind a paywall and doesn’t even add substance to the story. And to make it worse its isn’t even well optimized as crashes and lag spikes occur much more frequently, even render distance was forced down. Its a shame that GZ quite literally lost the plot. Old GZ really does bring back the old vibe I had when I first played and the reason for that is because of the lack of the intro NPCs, it truly feels like you are the only one finding out where everyone went.

Exactly, imagine the the old GZ with the modern revamps and alphine along with fnix rising but minus the other crap that got added AND also minus the downgrades and weird design choices, i would legit fart from exitment.

I get what you mean, it’s tough when a game you really enjoyed gets left in a buggy state after the final update. It deserved a smoother send-off. Even with the issues, though, it’s nice to remember how much fun it brought while it lasted.
