Tick-sized... Gnomes?

Still to find one of these elusive creatures :flushed:

They’re definitely still there on Xbox, so pre-Resistance Update. Not sure about after.

I’ve yet to see what they’ve done to Östervik with the Resistance Update but it sounds like they might be even scarcer going forward.

Considering the overhaul to Ostervik…

Unfortunately my Xbox isn’t likely to be set-up for a while, I’ve been having some work done on my house, there’s dust and workmen in and out of my living room so I’ve boxed up my stuff.

Occasionally my 8yo son has the Xbox set up via a projector in his room but I can hardly play on it while he’s in bed. It’s a bit bright.

I just discovered the Tick Gnomes!

I’m on Xbox Series X. It was daytime in the game. I was hosting a coop MP game. This occurred June 2022 after the New Dawn update.

Location was Tornberget (Southwest of Ostervik and directly south of Haga). My partner discovered 3 Gnomes in a house. For several minutes I could not see the Gnomes at all. Then after my partner engaged them I could only see them once they attacked my partner. Eventually I could see and shoot/loot them. It was surreal. We were freaking out and excited to stumble upon this weird situation. We were like puppies that found a wind-up toy.

At the time we were not aware of this Gnome Tick phenomenon so we were just having a blast looting and scratching our heads on this mysterious event. We had no prior knowledge of the Gnome Masks either. We would have looted more if we would have known about the rare freaky masks. However we both looted a lot of Tick Pods, Gnome Pods, and Advanced Medkits.

Some players have claimed that a lot of chaos must occur prior to spawning Gnome Ticks - like big battles, destruction etc, but we didn’t fight many machines that session at all. We happened to be in the area looking for specific collectibles and not looking for Gnome Ticks. Ouse coincidence. I think I killed a few Hunters and some Runners but not many. No epic battles. However I do recall hearing multiple loud explosions in the distance during this particular session which was really strange. It almost sounded like we set down land mines far away - but we didn’t. Very strange.

During the same session I also found the very rare Semla pastry in a kitchen (can’t recall if it was the same house or a nearby house). Others have noticed this too.

The specific house in which we found the Gnomes was not circled on any of the screenshots in this thread - it was a grey house diagonal from the burning house and next to a yellow house in Tornberget. It faces south. Sometimes this house has normal Ticks in it.

Some players have claimed that the Gnomes only appear at night (in the game) but we experienced them during the day/evening, not night. I don’t recall what time it was in real life but we typically play in evenings or nights. We are in USA Midwest CST time zone (GMT -5).

One thing I have noticed is that all (or most) of the houses mentioned in the thread that are potential Gnome spawns will have ‘normal’ Ticks in them from time to time. I know this because I have been back to the area 5 times and many of the houses mentioned above have Ticks in them (but not always). I’m curious if I should kill them and wait for them to respawn (go away and travel back via radio later and see if they return as Gnomes) or if I should ignore them (don’t kill them) and come back later to see if they “transform“ into the Gnomes when I return.

Also worth mentioning is that when I hosted the MP session, I was not able to interact with one of the doors in the house that contained the Gnomes. This is a common observation. It was a ‘normal’ door but I couldn’t interact with it, but my partner (who joined my game) could open and close it fine. Very odd.

As for the collectibles and status of our games, neiyof us have all the collectibles and we are about 75% through the game. I only have 10 of the 21 Gnome collectibles (Tradgardstomtar) I’m level 31 and she is level 27. We both completed the Alpine Unrest and FNIX Rising DLC together but we have not finished the main game yet. In fact we haven’t even been to the North Coast at all yet and we have a bunch of collectibles and schematics to find. We have both purchased all the paid DLC and weapons packs.

I will also add that currently, as of June 2022, GZ is extremely buggy on Xbox. I crash hard almost every time I play solo and when hosting coop, my partner drops off and has to restart her game to rejoin (this occurs multiple times per session and it’s nearly unplayable due to the frustrating experience). Prior to the New Dawn update my game was rock solid. Very rarely crashed at all in the last 9 months. I’m really disappointed in the stability of this game and hope the devs fix it otherwise we will have to find another game to spend our time - and money - on.

Very nice report, you covered all the details excellently.

I have yet to encounter these tick-gnomes, but I look forward to it.

And of course, yes the game has a lot of bugs. The dev team has been doing pretty well recently with fixing bugs, New Dawn brought a lot of bug fixes that have been complained on here for a while. I play on the Xbox app, and mine is buggy as well. But every game has bugs, its just part of life.

I eagerly await the next chapter in GZ.

It doesn’t become better or more interesting the more topics you create. It’s almost spam now…

@Zesiir what do you think?

Seems like these would belong in the Tick Sized Gnomes thread.

@Echelons-4th-Spy, feel free to post more screenshots of gnome tick shenanigans here.

Kålleby

…and Klinte

I’ve found gnomes in both those locations previously and Kålleby still has really appalling performance at times. Spawning at Lännbacka Brygga and walking NE towards Kålleby can cause all kinds of problems.

Are these still in the game?

Was having a look through some buildings that were marked as sightings but there either now blown to all hell or the door is blocked/inside door is blocked. I feel like after my 3 year break ive missed alot of stuff

Welcome to the forums!

Sadly no, the Gnome Ticks were taken out a while ago. Who knows when they’ll return.

If and then if answer becomes yes, then when.

I tucked the ones I have in my USB drive and add new files from time to time but they are already very rare.

I can’t find them anymore either, but I have the 7 gnome mask already & at least 1000 gnome ticks stored away
