Walking with the bicycle and motorcycle

I know what you might be thinking, why would you want to walk with the bicycle?

Well, during my currently short playtime, ive noticed that sometimes when you’re cycling up an hill, you might run out of momentum, then you might start falling back down the hill.

So i have an improvement suggestion:

Allow players to walk with the bicycle, and move it by pushing.
In my opinion this would be a nice addition that allows the player to take the bicycle with them without having to abandon it and walk rest of the way.

This could also be applied into motorcycles as well, and add an stealth element.
Like if you were to pass multiple enemies that you dont want to fight or alert, you could just turn the engine off and push the bike past the robots.

Also posted on steam forums.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Not sure if I like the idea.

I use a bike, motorbike, or flakmoped to travel to a location fast, without using fasttravel.

A flakmoped may have additional use cases of course, especially if you have the DLC.

If I jump off of my bike, it’s because I want or need to fight… Or I’m unable to reach my destination while using the bike.

Being able to push it instead of driving it could be interesting but would make me unable to be fast and mobile and combat ready.

So I thought, as we can already carry the companion, can’t we just carry the bike or motorbike, too? Not the flakmoped, that would be too much/too powerful.

Yes, it’s kind of unrealistic, but much more useable.

In my opinion the weight shouldn’t be zero or just 2kg again.

What do you think?

I myself dont really like the idea of being able to carry the bicycle in your inventory since it is quite unrealistic.

Normal bicycle weighs around 10kg nowdays, it was more back in the 80’s since the body was full metal.
And being able to carry an motorcycle is just absurd to me.

Yes, the inventory tactic could work for the same purpose im suggesting the walking and pushing mechanic for, a temporary solution to get your bike over an obstacle or an hill without having to take an entire different route or abandoning the bike.

Like, i have few times ran into the problem of needing to leave my bicycle into some hill and then completing an objective, then needing the bicycle again to go to a next place, but now my bicycle is on the otherside of the mountain and i need it on the exact opposite side.

In theory, I very much agree with you. In practice, I’d rather that the devs devote whatever time they’re spending on game development to more vital additions to the game- like a hardcore mode, a skills revamp, opening up new islands, and the like.

As an aside, your bit about turning the engine off is something which needs application to the player’s companion bot. It currently makes far more noise than any other runner in the game.

I do agree with the fact that the dev team needs to work and already propably are working on adding more “important” stuff to the game.

I just thought this would be a nice addition and would help getting your bike around more easily rather than having to leave it behind since it cannot make it up the hill.

It is, yes.

But it’s also unrealistic to carry tons of guns which almost all just weight 2kg each ingame, but some of them maybe about 12kg in real life.
And the companion… You can put 32 kg inside of it, pick it up and it just weights 2kg?

Point taken

Normally an assault rifle varies from 4-5kg but machine guns and such are heavier yes.
But a motorcycle weighs around 70-80kg, so that would literally take all of your carrying capacity.

Also, i did not know that about the companion, since i havent stacked anything inside it in fear of it getting destroyed and me having to take all the stuff in my inventory.

But in the end all im asking is just being able to either push the bicycle so you dont have to leave it behind because of a rock that stopped all of your momentum and you fell back down to the bottom of the hill.

@Nova, I can perhaps offer a way that might help you get on hills easier. I do it all the time by driving the bicycle horizontal to the right and only slightly upwards then make a 180 turn and drive horizontally slightly upwards to the left, while trying to keep momentum. Basically make a zigzag path but keeping the incline small.

That’s how you can climb most mountains, too… if it’s not too steep.

There was a time I made a sport of it to get my bicycle up on the strangest places. I have been riding up the stairs in bunkers and even up some castle towers, also been on the Himfjäll low water basin, the one with Hjälp on the door. Mind you it took many tries.

But I think there was a change in the Bicycle physics and we can’t do that anymore.

Spot on. I do exactly the same thing.

Agreed not good idea if u cant make it up the hill u cant but you could always just store the bicyckle in your backpack LMAO !!!

Well, i guess nobody likes added realism in their games anymore.

It was just an idea for a little bit added detail and realism.

Its the little things that make games shine.

But I do like your idea of walking and pushing, or carrying the bike on their shoulder, like bikers sometimes do in cross-country races. And if the devs think it will add to the game they will make a note of that.

Realism is also that the devs don’t have an enormous budget and a just a small team, and we are really lucky if we get a little bit more lore, more new locations, more missions, more replayability, etc… :coffee:

I know that the dev team is small.

I am excited to see what they add in the future.
Im just a bit surprised of people stomping on the idea of realism just to get the game to be easier.

Well it’s your idea and It stands, of course some people will not like it or do like it, but like the devs doing other things more urgent. It is not personal towards you. The bike has always been a bit clunky to operate and honestly I think that it would be easier for the devs to make it so players can carry a bike in backpack.

I didn’t do that.
I tried to combine realism with GZs reality.

Realism is cool, but you cannot just make single things too real, but have all the rest unrealistic. It should fit somehow to the rest of the game.
Know what I mean?

That’s what the Idea behind my suggestion was.

All i was just suggesting is to push a bicycle around, i dont think that would be too realistic.

But, we shall see what happens in the future.

The main idea about the motorcycles is that they’re a balance between going fast / and being loud.

For bicycles however I think it would make sense if one could pick it up and carry it, then deploy it
wherever you needed. It wouldn’t be very heavy, compared to all the other stuff the player carries!

one of my characters is over weight in guns and things & I needed to relocate him to my new building base on top of the hill in the forest region, for fast travel essentials & driving the flak moped & getting up hill was difficult, couldn’t get up & I just eventually quit game and restarted & the overweight character spawned on top of the mountain
