Updates are towards the end of each month. I’d say there’s a good probability they’re looking to smooth out the difficulty curve 
Is there a patch every month?
There have been, except when there are holidays and devs aren’t at work.
So far, July’19 and Dec’19 patches didn’t came. Though, in Dec’19 (Christmas time), we had holiday event instead.
