Why does the physical edition come with a disk?

I just received my physical copy of Generation Zero from EB Games in Australia and I’m installing it right now, but I’m just curious; does anyone have any ideas why it comes with a disk if it also has the Steam activation code inside the case? Is it for aesthetic purposes? How can you install a Steam game from a disk? Does that even work? I’m curious and would appreciate if anyone has any ideas on the topic.

i have had some PC games for games and so on in the past that had a disc and where activated on steam it just gets the file of the disc instead of downloading it all. but its highly likely that you will have to download a update.

geetings fellow Aussie, feel free to add me to steam for some coop (Oddleaf)
