You can't make completely new characters

A lot of data is saved between characters, clothing, schematics, storage, resource’s, and that makes actually doing a new playthrough damn near impossible as half of the character related stuff is done for you.

If I’m doing something wrong, you know a fix for this or something like that, please tell me, otherwise help me get this to systemics attention pls. Also yeah, I’ve posted about this multiple times before, and if that’s against the rules(I don’t actually know how to check those, I forgot lol if someone could remind me how that’s appreciated, if there even are rules) then I’m sorry, but this is a genuinely bad issue that needs to be fixed as it’s probably my biggest issue with the current state of the game, and as far as I’m aware systemic doesn’t even know it exists.

Nope, you’re right. There is no way to do a new player experience in this game, including starting a new world and character. Your storage is UNIVERSAL. The first Storage crate you find will have all your previous saves’ gear in it for you to instantly get a big boost in power. Even without skills, this significantly lowers the difficulty curve.

Also, you can’t reset quest progress, so once you’ve done all the quests, they’re done. Forever. On all characters. Across all saves. And getting rid of your saves doesn’t help if you have cloud backups, because as soon as it syncs, you’re back where you started.

How hard would it be to great toggles to unlink your storage, materials, and/or quest progress between worlds? It’s an honest question, not snark. It would be nice to have the option to start a new world and not have progress from other worlds follow you.

So, to be clear, you want to restart the game completely without anything at all as if you just bought it? Turn off steam back up and delete the game folder from your computer’s document folder. When you restart the game, it will be a fresh restart.

If you do this you can NEVER TURN CLOUD SAVES BACK ON. If you do, the quest status and storages will sync and you’re back to playing the same game you tried to get away from. So, no, your suggestion does NOT work. I tried it. It doesn’t work, at all, if you plan to ever use cloud saves.

Wouldn’t the new local saves overwrite the cloud saves if you turn cloud saves back on?

Or at least ask which to keep and which to overwrite?

That wipes everything and I want to keep my og character, plus that’s not an option for console players like myself. I agree with Drakkon, there needs to be options to unlink stuff between characters and worlds, saving nothing is acceptable if that’s not feasible but it should be.

Oh… yeah, didn’t say it was a console. Sorry, method only works on PC with STEAM.

It’s fine, I didn’t mention console as this is an issue everywhere from what I’ve been told, plus resetting all your data isn’t really a solution I think most would pick even if it was console available.

Correction:
Works on Playstation, too.

Interesting, I didn’t know that. Regardless of what data resetting works on, it isn’t a proper solution for this issue as you lose everything.

i use USB for backup storage, PS4 clouds requires subscription & activate connecting to Internet at all times, :mountain_snow: parts of Iceland country, like middle of nowhere mountains can’t get decent Internet cloud thingie, USB will always be there for PS4 owners, even in Iceland country mountains in 30 years, PS4 clouds won’t be there for subscription peoples in 30 years

The only solution I know of [at least on Xbox One] is to create an entirely new gamertag where you can start from scratch. I’ve done this 3 times now for a fresh day one start.
Deleting a save game locally on your primary/main account will overwrite a cloud save, but achievements are already completed and clothing is kept.

Can you play online when you create a new gamertag, without needing to pay for an additional account?

Yes you can play online from what I can tell. I play single player/solo and don’t have Xbox Live. I have to log in with my primary gamertag on the Xbox [as that is the ID I purchased the game on] and log into the system with my new gamertag to play.
There is no additional cost, but you will need a new email address connected to the new account. I just created a gmail email just to create the account. I think the process is similar on PS4 to have an ID that is not a ‘guest’ account for that game session. I hope that helps!

That is… Acceptable until systemic does something. Can I fully reset progress on Xbox for that gamertag should I need another go at it? Or am I able to delete a gamertag and make a new one with the same email? I may be an Xbox guy but I don’t actually know.

As far as I know the email is attached to that gamertag with Microsoft. Who knows if systemic will address this, their solution a few years back was the multiple worlds on the same profile to play over again - but achievements, clothing, plundra, etc. are all shared - which is good and bad. Good because you have plenty of high powered weapons, ammo, health, etc. Bad because you have a big advantage and not as challenging.
Only solution as of now is new email, create new gamertag and start new game.

It was meant to allow a “new game plus” mode.
But without the option of a real new game.

It’s nice to have the option to play a new world with a new character with all the stuff from a previous playthrough. If it would be an option.
And on the other hand, as “the door works in both directions”, all the early needed stuff also fills the plundra of the further progressed characters.

So you can’t have for example a coop character for multiplayer fun and a character for a fresh new singleplayer playthrough.

So in the end it’s all just bad.
