I’ve really enjoyed playing Generation Zero and I’m looking for ways to add some fresh content now that updates have stopped. Do any of you have favorite mods or custom content you’d recommend? Also, if anyone has made something unique they’d be willing to share, I’d love to check it out!
Sorry, no Mod Support, therefore it’s against the rules to talk about mods here.
@Imro Not only they leave the game full of bugs they introduced in the latest “Final Update”, they dont even leave the door open for mods which could even have non official bug fixes and also a lot o new content.
At least i love my S.T.A.L.K.E.R games with mods.
Nobody on here really uses mods that I know of, but I do believe there are some mods you can get. As far as modding being “against the rules”, it’s totally fine, it just makes the forum users very angry for some reason you’re totally fine to talk about them on the forum as well, as mods are a completely different thing from hacks, and no matter what they say, they can’t get mad at you for it. If you find any good mods please let me know!
The thing about mods and why using them is taboo is because since the game is P2P there is always the risk of someone using mods and playing online with vanilla players. When that happens the modded files of their game can corrupt others who join that session. You can see how that would be problematic.
Since there’s no way to moderate such behaviour it’s better to just discourage the mention of mods
and where to get them, at least on official channels like the forums and Discord.
Dying Light devs sorted this out by allowing modded game to be played only in singleplayer mode.
Mods can extend life and quality of a game - the best example is (in my opinion) Skyrim.
Sadly for me GZ is dead. I dont think I’ll be ever going back to it.
Oh, I love modding Skyrim. There’s some fantastic fan-made content out there.
That’s a good way of going about it. I hope they enforce it well to stop cheaters. Unlike say, Rockstar, who’s greedy and ignorant approach has completely ruined GTA Online.
If GZ had full mod support from the beginning, we’d have unofficial fan patches by now. Alas.
I’m pretty much done with the game as well. Especially if the devs plan on leaving it in this state.
It’s sad, but what can you do. At least it’ll stay in my steam library if I want to revisit Östertörn in the future.
Never expected till a month ago that YOU would say something like it is, you always tried to remain neutral.
Honestly its weird how this went.
I doubt most people thought we would even get a “New island”, so it would be okay for the support to end if the bugs were mostly fixed, which at a point they mostly were.
But then suddenly they come with the Final update and dont even fix what they broke?
Its really weird and shows a lack of accountability .
I don’t blame the actual game devs for anything, they did a fantastic job with what they had. And I hope they all moved on to successful careers.
This feels a lot more like a management decision. Someone higher up looked at some declining figures and decided on a deadline. If the product doesn’t meet a quota, you pull the plug on development.
It’s sad because it puts a lot of pressure on the dev team. Knowing you have no choice but to deliver
an unfinished product must be tough. I couldn’t work in an environment like that.
With such decision makers we are lucky they are not owned by Ubisoft or the game would no longer be “available” at all.
Still, leaving the product with defects due to their last update is shameful.
I wont be buying anything else from their company for a while, the same way i havent bought a single Ubisoft title since they stole The Crew videogame from the customers (2024).
I do understand completely, but it is hard to just stop using companies completely as, especially for the bigger companies, their games will a lot of the time have entirely different teams, and even managers working on their games. Some companies actually go through OTHER companies to make “their” games, and sometimes they will go to independent developers that don’t work for companies, which is why it’s sometimes more about the individual games rather than the companies. My brother-in-law works for a company that owns a ton of different games, and they get different developer teams for nearly every game they own rights to. Not sure if you’ve heard of Bodycam, the pc game, but basically it’s the most realistic game that currently exists, and the company is only using 2 standalone developers for it. But don’t get me wrong, there are definitely some very greedy companies out there that ruin multiple of their games, like EA for example, since the big decisions like shutting down games and making them unavailable generally do come from the same people.
I still feel that the game was worth it for me, but I can understand that logic (I got a copy of the crew like a month before it disappeared)
I just read one of my old posts from November '19. I find it quite hilarious, but I still stand by what I wrote. And I did play on despite my bitter rant - but obviously always with a grumpy attitude.
However, I think the last paragraph in my post says it all. I’ve seen players in here playing the game for years, and still wanting their money back because things didn’t turn out as they expected. I totally disagree with that sentiment (the “I want my money back” part). The devs made something exceptional and they have all reason to be proud about it.
Congratulations, developers, you did great! All the best on your future endeavours
Well i obviously meant that I wont be paying games which i Know were made by a company or teams that did a lot of wrong before.
There you have it.
Ubisoft as company is predatory and actually did the decision to shut down that game I mentioned, my post was direct.
Oh EA…another one, i tend to avoid most of their games too.
I never said it was not worth it to me.
But it sucks the way it ended. (Both for The Crew and GZ)
At least we can keep playing GZ with some bugs…
My sentiment exactly.
I think I have played every game from studios that fall under the Avalanche group, even the two (Second Extinction and Ravenbound) that some considered flops, I enjoyed very much. I’m sure that when a new game comes out from them I will see if it fits my genre and check them out.
Was the crew any good? Didn’t realize how old it was so by the time I tried to play it, it was already gone.
I never played the crew personally, one time my account got hacked and the person that took my account actually bought the crew, then after I got my account back I thought about giving it a try lol. It did look pretty fun. I play a lot of vr games now, I honestly don’t spend as much time playing regular games on my pc
Yes it was good, and in 2016 new content arrived it was basically The Crew 2.0 , it had a small but good soundtrack (unlike The crew 2).
It actually had a Story mode which you could repeat, lots of stuff to find and see and you even had cops (like Hot pursuit )and even another Story DLC where you are the COPS.
The Crew 2 has better graphics and in a weird way you can transform your vehicle to boats or planes, like you were transformers, but the good part ends there, there are no cops, the music is worst (in my opinion) and its no serious anymore, its like illegal racing is legal and everything is a party, makes things less interesting and ordinary.
The game just like GZ, has no Pause, while it was cool to travel with friends through the U.S you could play completely in solo modo , it had 2 big DLCS and other smaller dlc, so it was quite a bad move by Ubisoft to dont allow us to play it anymore since 2024.
Imagine in a few months the devs come here and say " Thank you for all the support, from 31 January 2026 the game will no longer be playable."
After so many DLC and time passed there it sucks, if it was only multiplayer like Concord , Overwatch i could understand, but not like this.
it was a lot of text, but this is a good summary.
Have you seen, there are some rumours/news that it is coming back, at least for PC.
