For the completion of the GZ Memory Map I thought I ask you guys here, before the forum closes for good.
I’m looking for areas that in the night show a greenish fog quite low to the ground. One of these areas I have marked on the map, but players mentioned that there are more of the green fog areas, but can’t say where. Normally you just accidently come across these, when you do nightly exploring.
(Fog within the F23 air base fence on the westside)
But they are not easy to find if you go looking for them, because the fog doesn’t show unless you are within a couple of meters from it. Now I know this is a long shot, but if someone ever seen such fog patches and maybe even remembers a location, or an approximate location, please tell.
Hi @Gysbert , can’t remember ever seeing this and I thought that I’d been pretty much all over the map. Is it a new thing? And is there something interesting associated with it (except it being some kind of anomaly)?
Perhaps it is just a developer flexing the engines muscles
Hi Ian, It’s not new, that I can say for sure. There are people who think it’s a bug, saying that it’s gas clipping out through the bunker ceiling. But since it is old and never fixed by the devs, i like to believe that it is intended to make areas creepy or perplexing. There is at least one other place that I know of, where this phenomenon takes place. It always there too (meaning) it’s not moving, but becomes very more visible at night. And most likely there is also such an area on HimfJäll. We just have to find it, and that is hard.
I also asked Zessir (privately) if he knows if the fog has any connection to the lore.
A second fog patch has been confirmed, and I added it to the map. I will upload it tomorrow. The gamer who found it will probably post a picture of it, here. I leave that to him.
Question is now are there more. The theory that the fog is perhaps only forming on bunkers, seems to hold true with the two known locations, both were above bunkers. I can’t be the toxic gas seeping through, because the fog does not harm. So my suggestion to fellow explorers would be, search the areas on top of bunkers. I certainly will check them.
Absolutely love it when one of the spots I’ve helped locate shows up on the @Gysbert map , makes the hunt feel worth it! So as @Gysbert states, the first location is west of the F23 base and the second is above Sorken bunker at (-601.397, -1454.573). I can confirm that the two known locations of the green fog line up exactly with the gas leaks directly beneath them, right down to the coordinates. At the second site, the leak is much deeper underground, but it still aligns perfectly on the surface, so I don’t think it’s a bug. More likely, the devs were hinting at the dangers lurking in the bunker below. Now the real question is, which other bunkers have gas leaks hidden in them? Can anyone here help?
@TimData the Saltholmen Naval base bunker had a gas room.
And there is a gas room in the ridge at IGA at warehouse G.
O, to any explorers, to see the green fog you must not run, but walk slow to give the fog time to show. The fog dispurses easily. So a running search is probably not going to work.
You were right!!! the green mist is here too, although it’s incredibly hard to photograph. It’s so elusive; as soon as I enter photo mode, I only get about three seconds before it vanishes. Nearly impossible to get a good shot of it!
Yes, the fog definitely varies in density across different areas. The depth of the leak doesn’t seem to have an effect, but time of day, proximity, and the duration spent within the mist certainly do. More experimentation is needed.
Make sure that you if you find other spots, to make notes if longer waiting time is necessary, and / or time of day. We can also discuss this in our alternative discord place, that way it easy find again when needed.
