Gnome masks 2025

kinda a dumb question i suppose lol but how do we calculate 2 hrs have passed in the game its not like 2 actual hours playing the game right ? so for example like 6 to 8 pm right now … its in game correcct so how do we calculate like …i have 20 min left ill head back to that gnome spot then wonder around …

Yes, it’s 2 hours real time before the Gnome respawns. The day/night cycle in Generation Zero runs on a 4-hour real-time loop: 2 hours of daytime and 2 hours of night. I’ve tested it a few times, and it’s consistent.

Also worth noting: fast traveling doesn’t affect the time of day. I tried jumping across the map right at sunset, and the lighting was exactly the same after the load. Time progression is real-time only, no shortcuts.

I’d love to show you my map! I’ve got 2,054 hours in Generation Zero and I’m still discovering new secrets! I’ve spent a lot of time exploring the hidden areas of Östertörn, and there are tons of cool sights and tricks I can share. I’m on Xbox too! — GT is TimData — so feel free to add me. I’ll be on all day this Wednesday if you want to team up and explore!

Cool. Please keep sharing these sights on the forum too, it would be great to find that you found something, I did not, but besides that it helps keeping to forum alive a bit longer, and gives people a chance to check or re-check out these nice points of interest.

I’m still looking for a second Mkay magazine, I thought I’ve seen one somewhere in early game, but I might have dreamt it…

Gysbert!! What an absolute joy to receive a message from you! You’ve genuinely made my day. I’ve been lurking and reading your posts on this forum for a good long time now, and your insights have brought me a great deal of enjoyment and inspiration.

Like many others have said, that map you created changed the way I experience GZ. This game means a lot to me, I came to it first during lockdown and it’s not just a great game, but something that’s helped me build lasting friendships through multiplayer. Your map, with all its incredible detail, became something very special and important to me.

I actually run a museum for a living and have a strong personal interest in historical maps. I once printed your map out on multiple A3 sheets, stitched them together, and had it up on my wall for a long while! These days, I mainly use it on my mobile phone, but I never stop appreciating the amount of effort and artistry you’ve poured into it. It truly is a work of art, and you should be incredibly proud of it.

So…thank you. It’s an honor to finally get to interact with a real Generation Zero hero!

As for me, I’ve decided to start posting here on the forum. This game is something I want to help keep alive, and I’d love to do anything I can to promote it and bring in new players. I’ve been active quite a bit over on the GZ subreddit, so if you’re curious, feel free to check out some of my posts there ( Perfect-Museum is my profile name there) maybe one or two are worth sharing here too, I’m not sure though they’re good enough but would still appreciate your opinion.

The game’s depth, its secrets, and all the little details scattered across Östertörn absolutely fascinate me. I’m especially interested in the lore, and I’m currently putting together a post about something I’ve noticed involving the Palmboken books you see scattered around, especially in the churches. There’s a specific page that appears on the organs in all nine churches and even on the organ in the hidden tenth church, the Iron Church. I think there’s some interesting lore tied to it, but perhaps I’m looking too deeply into it  and I’ll be sure to share those thoughts here soon.

This forum is still new to me and I’m still figuring it all out but I’ll do my best to post in the right section and I hope you get a chance to read it once it’s up.

Thanks again for all you’ve contributed to this community, Gysbert. Your passion and positivity keeps this game and this forum alive and that means a great deal to me.

Looking forward to getting more involved here and I’ll be keeping an eye out for that second Mkay magazine!

I salute you sir!!!:grinning::grinning::grinning:

Thanks for the kind words. Great picture with all the firebirds in the background. :point_left:
I am also deeply interested in the lore. And I think they make great discussion items. I curious thought if you found all six gnome masks on Aspholmen or did you found some on Ostertorn. I got all 7 in the Hagaboda area, I too had lots of duplicates, especially nearing the completion of the 7 mask collection.

I will try and see if I can find some of your posts on Reddit. I love to read GZ stuff from fellow explorers. :coffee:

Great to hear you’re into the lore too! I kinda figured you would be!:grinning: There’s just so much packed into this game, and I totally agree, it makes for some fantastic discussion, which I absolutely love diving into.

As for the Gnome Masks, I actually found all six of mine on Aspholmen using the same Gnome Tick trick (say that fast three times!). Like you, I got loads of duplicates, RNG really likes to mess with you when you’re down to the last one. I’m still hunting for the Golden Mask. I only started analysing the game obsessively after the Showdown update, so I unfortunately missed the chaotic Hagaboda period when the masks were spawning more frequently. Other players have shown me screenshots and told me how much easier it was to farm them back then, I’ve tried to recreate those conditions dozens of times recently, but to no avail :smiling_face_with_tear: Sounds like you were in the right place at the right time!

And yes, that Firebird screenshot was a lot of fun to pull off. Took me ages to figure out how to duplicate them, but I eventually cracked it using the Death From Above mission as the catalyst!

Quick question for you too…am I dreaming, or are you updating your amazing map? I ask because I recently revisited Storskogen to check out what I remember being labeled as “Dinosaur Bone ??”, and now find listed as “Bone-like log.” Just curious if that was a recent change!

Always a pleasure chatting with fellow explorers!

Thanks so 3 tick pods 2 gnome pods 2 hats 1 skirt and ammo NO GNOME MASK its gettin annoying all that time feels like ive wasted it for a skirt or a hat or junk ammo lol

YEEESSS!! You absolute legend! I’m so so happy for you!!! massive congratulations on finally getting the green gnome mask! All that patience and grinding has paid off, and you are now officially part of our glorious gnome brotherhood (and sisterhood!):military_helmet::tada: only the worthy earn these masks and there aren’t many off us out there!

Your excitement is infectious, I can practically hear you cheering from here in the UK and it made me grin like mad. And yep, I’ve had it confirmed by the studio too: that is the only location to get it. The game support is still active, though whether it’s just a bot or real person, who knows!

Also, if you’re up for it, I’d love to get a screenshot selfie with you in game! Or if you could post a pic of your masked glory, that would be amazing too. I’ve been collecting photos of all the players I meet who’ve unlocked the masks, trying to build a little visual archive of our ever growing gnome gang!

Glad you’ve been using the @Gysbert map too, It’s been absolutely invaluable to me during my time in Östertörn. I’ve used it constantly, and he keeps it so well updated as the community uncovers new secrets.

If you’re ever up for it, I’d love to give you a tour and show you some of my favourite little spots; there are still cool things to discover and perhaps we’ll uncover more interesting new things to post here! Plus… your journey isn’t quite over yet  There are six more masks to find, so your gnome adventures are just beginning. Don’t give up now!

Big cheers again, you earned it!!

the underground church is still there eh but u prolly know that the rock to the cave can be exploded with grenades or the big rocket launcher

Remember:
Previously, Idk why and how, the gnomes just seem to have been an instability indicator. They just occured/appeared, when the game really became laggy and buggy. In general this happened to happen in and around östervik or hagaboda… The places with the most used assets/objects.

The fps became low, destroyables weren’t destroyable any more (glas, fences, streetlights,…), backpacks and toolboxes began to switch colors frequently, some doors weren’t able to be opened any more.
Usually those were indicators of nearby gnomes… And/Or the game being short before crashing to desktop/dashboard.

As far as we know, this has been removed… Because, you know, of course the game isn’t that unstable any more (as it once has been).

I guess because of that the devs added this spot on the new island as an easter egg/a reminder of what we once had and to enable us to complete our collections.

If there were any other places with gnomes, they would already have been found… I’m sure.

If you want to open a discussion about your ideas around the Psalmboken, it is best to start a new topic about it, that way all info about it is gathered at one place. I must say I did not notice any special pages, so I like to know more.

When you mentioned 10 churches, I wondered if only 10 had those pages, because, according to my data there 16 above ground churches, 1 underground church and 1 wooden barn church.

Anyway love to see what theories you have about the special pages. :coffee:

Ahhh, I’ve made a huge mistake, I’ve been counting the churches using my second world map, and not all the churches are revealed on it yet! No wonder my numbers were off. I really should’ve just used your map from the start, it would’ve saved me a lot of head scratching.

Looks like it’s back to the drawing board with my research on the Psalmboken pages. I’ll definitely start a proper discussion thread soon, would love to gather everyone’s thoughts and see if there’s any deeper meaning or if it’s just looking for signs where there are none! Thanks again for the correction.:grinning:

It must have been a glorious time to be in Östertörn during all that chaos! I love my glitches, and would’ve loved to see that kind of instability in action!

There’s something kind of magical about games when they hit that unpredictable, borderline crashing point, it’s like the world starts revealing its seams. Love testing those limits! The idea that gnomes were tied to that instability just makes them even more mysterious and cool. If you’ve any screenshots from back then I’d love to see them!

Awesome shot! Thank you! I’ve added you to my growing gnome collection! Love the matching trousers too, such a great look. Once I’ve collected all the masks, I can’t wait to kit out my character in the full outfits that groove with that mask and start posing them in the perfect spots around the map that resonate with that particular gnome mask! :grinning::grinning::grinning:

Finally got all seven gnome masks! What a grind! Feels great to have them all, but I’ve definitely felt the RNG gods mood swings throughout this challenge. Worth every minute, though!:grinning::love_you_gesture:
