Gnomes Mask and Gnomes Pod ¡Mysteries!

Hum…ok, i still haven´t got even one of the famous Gnomes items.

It only ever used to show up by pushing the game in to a particularly glitchy state. I think the recent stability patches have probably made it far less likely to show.

From friends who have played both consoles versions of the game the PS4 was the easiest platform to get them to appear and would keep in the ‘buggy’ state longer before blue-screening.

The Xbox version would require more work to tip it over the edge, but then once you had them appearing it was more likely to crash to dashboard.

My earlier post is the best way we found as a group to try and get them to spawn but it can be a thankless task and literally take hours. Plus I really wouldn’t attempt it solo either. You can get them to spawn only to be locked out of the house.

A friend and I tried for a couple of hours last night on the Series X and there wasn’t even a hint of them showing tbh.

The yellow house at the top of Haga next to the water tower is certainly the most frequent place, but not the only, not by a long shot. That whole area is a hot spot. As are the houses by the relay beacon at the other end of town.

On ps4 he always spawns in the yellow house first, and the good thing about that is that the door to the livingroom is always open so you can get in if your solo. If you find him there and you cant interact with him your to late, but sometimes he has moved on to one or more houses just north of that house, its alot harder to get in then, you used to be able to move a waterbarrel to the back of the house and jump on that, break a window and throw in a radio but lately the windows on them houses seems impossible to break.

I’ve never seen him on the other side of town nor in the middle like on pc…

Im not saying these are facts, only my experience so far… Lots of love to all and be safe!

Ohh and use shotguns or melee weapons then you encounter him. Seems a bit more stable that way so the event goes on for longer time before crashing.

I was trying this on the PS5 the last days. But with no success.
Did anyone get it to work on the ps5 yet?

I got the game being crashed several times, mostly in coop, so it should be possible…

I’ve tried it many times on PS5 no luck yet :face_with_monocle:

It has been confirmed post resistance. For now, it’s all I can say

Hello. I managed to acquire three gnome masks today on steam.
Here’s a reddit thread with images.

Hey ! How did you do this I’ve never even seen a gnome tick in god knows how many hours :+1:

I am on Xbox and I have gathered some research from across the web from the community of GZ. I am going to be attempting to get them to spawn tomorrow. I had many people on last gen Xbox ones try to enter ostervik, but they would instantly crash. If anyone wants to join, my gamer tag is doritoburrIto11.

How did you get on? Did you manage to spawn any?

I found a way to get that lag similar with the gnomes. I haven’t found a group of people that know anything about the gnomes. I am recruiting people to help search.

Entity stacking on the map creates a large amount of lag when done right. I have only tested field radios. Stacking around 100 in one spot can almost crash a XSX.

Yup. They’re definitely still in here on Xbox. Usual method, usual location. Managed to crash my Series X too.

So what’s the deal with this gnome stuff? This all reads like an urban legend or something. Are these methods of getting the gnomes to spawn intentional or is it just breaking the game? Do the devs even know about this?

It just sounds really weird.

Yes, you can get them to spawn, a friend and I set out to do this intentionally this evening. But it’s inconsistent, frustrating and time consuming.

The devs most definitely know about it, they had to have put it there. Recently they accidentally had the schematics for a ‘gnome exclusive’ item (a gnome pod) in a recent public build before they swiftly removed them!

They’ve even adjusted the spawn location of the gnomes (slightly) with this update. Previously it spawned inside the room, now it levitates in the doorway.

I saw those clips soon after you found them. It gave me hope. I gathered a team and we sought out to finding them. Hopefully, we will find them soon.

Congrats on that undead mask.
I have a friend on steam that had another spawn location; west of this new one-the red house near the gas station closest to that command base.
I’ll probably try again tonight.

I’ve had them appear on the latest update in 4 or 5 different houses now. All the same locations as before the update more or less.

Only now some of the old locations are blocked off. So it’s entirely possible you can soawn them in houses that you’re unable to access due to the changes in the environment.

What is the best way to get them, I’ve tried for what seems like an age now and never seen one on PS or Xbox , where’s best , I’m on series X now ! :+1::+1:

There’s a whole other thread on them here;

But basically we (I usually do this in co-op, it is possible solo but would recommend co-op) tour Ostervik and destroy as many cars / junction boxes, gas canisters as we can. All the while popping into and checking out the ground floor of most of the buildings.

Then we head out into the game and find the largest battles we can. (Last night, Himfjäll) If the game starts to get “weird”, with OG machines fighting OG machines or ticks spawning infinitely, or any other such odd behaviour (often tossing flares or fireworks in to large groups can help.) head back to Ostervik and loop again.

If any of the previously blown up gas canisters, junction boxes or cars have reset then the chances are there is a gnome nearby.

Basically rinse and repeat the above. Based on the past couple of days, it feels that despite the reworking of Ostervik the game is in a particularly rough state and these guys are easier to spawn than ever.

Be warned, people on older hardware, OG PS4 / XB1S will have a tougher time of it. It will crash your game. Last night I had 4 crashes to dashboard on Series X, a friend on XB1S had at least twice as many. It can be a truly miserable experience trying to trigger / farm them.

Also, unfortunately, due to the revamp some times they can spawn in a completely unaccessible building. You can go through the trouble of triggering them only to be unable to reach them due to a remodeled house.

Here’s a map of the most likely buildings. (Note: this is pre-Resistance update so the map is slightly different now but I think I’ve seen them in 5 of these same spots now).
