Heart shaped from stones - easter egg?

Is this a possible easter egg, or simply tossed into the game for enjoyment? There is also a candle and a Key sitting inside of the heart. You cannot pickup the key.

The “Heart” can be found at these coordinates just off starter island: 4551, 1698

It’s really nice a nice find, but I wouldn’t call it an easter egg, inasmuch a part of the ‘world story’, that makes the place feel like people actually lived here.

What I love about it is the fact that it’s in an out of the way spot to reward players for venturing off the beaten path.

For sure, those small touches in the game make it worth while

I decided to explore the starting location a bit more before continuing with the game. There is a house that you cannot enter so I was hoping I would be able to pick up the key, open the house and find some supplies. However, as remarked you cannot pick up the key.

I was wondering whether there is a mission you can follow later on in the game where you have to go back to this location and maybe then you can pick up the key and enter the house. Probably in order to retrive some item for the quest giver. Or maybe that was the plan and the developers never got around to implementing it.

I agree with Solensia that there are many location like this where you will find some items, a bloody handprint on the wall, a body telling a little story about what has happened while you were away.

I found another site with the remains of a harvester with a dead body and some supplies being guarded by a hunter, several runners and some ticks. I think it was close to the house you find at the start, because I died and decided to respawn there in order to save my adrenaline shots for when I really need them.

It really pays to search areas even if they are not part of the main story. On top of the hill near the starting house (there is a trail leading there) you will find a camping site, probably from a group of boy scouts (there are some bodies and bikes and plenty of back packs). You’re constantly rewarded with supplies and crafting materials, so I never felt that it was a waste of time.

Talk about going necro! But it’s for a good reason. In every good open world game, the player loses a lot if he just sticks to the mapped paths, and GZ is no different.

There was also a cave in that same area that had sleeping bags in it. But one of the first updates caused it to vanish.

Juan, can you shed more light on where that cave was, and maybe even a picture, because I don’t know who you are replying, so I have no idea what area you refer to. Do you mean near the heart shaped stones? Because one of the 2 caves on Iboholmen, and which are still there have some sort sleeping beds in and octogonal configuration in them. But I guess you do not mean that one.

It was on the main island close to where Boston_51 is showing on his map, on the main part of the island, south of the location. It was halfway up the hill there and over looked a camp fire and like a bench or small dock by the water’s edge. There wasn’t a trail but you climbed up and then you went into a slight hole and then there was a shallow cave with sleeping bags and maybe some other stuff. It was early part of 2020.

It was always very hard to find.

Even though your description of the cave doesn’t fit this one below, except it has field beds, I’ll post it anyway to make sure this is not the cave you mean.

Since you say it is gone it would be hard to find its original location. You don’t have more information about the general area on the map (coords) ?

The cave with the eight beds is overlooking this:

No, it is not the one down the cliff from the castle.

It was going east from the first safe house. From there I can’t remember if it was above the upper trail or below the upper trail. It has been a long time since the cave was there and I didn’t visit it but one or two times before it was gone. Also was not a walk through cave but just a hole in the side of the hill.

I think I might have found a possible spot where this mysterious cave could have been. The opening seem squarish but closed off. Edit: But after reading you last remarks, I think I need to be more to the north.

Well, I think I found it on Björknäskogen mountain, but there’s no beds here, or not anymore. There a big boulder in place where, I guess, the beds were. But between the boulder and the rockface there’s an opening to a deeper part that needed me to crouch down to fall into the cavity. Once in I can’t get out again by jumping or climbing.
